Description: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone and dopamine were identified simultaneously in the same block of tissue from the median eminence of the rat brain. Two distinct bands of dopamine terminals were found in the lateral median eminence: an inner band which overlapped the gonadotropin-releasing hormone terminals and an outer band which appeared juxtaposed to portal capillaries.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉McNeill, T H -- Sladek, J R Jr -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1978 Apr 7;200(4337):72-4.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/345442" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: The distribution of fluorescent varicosities in the supraoptic nucleus of Brattleboro rats was compared to that in normal rats. The Brattleboro rat, which is characterized by a genetic absence of vasopressin, had fewer fluorescent varicosities in apposition to the vasopressin-deficient perikarya. The oxytocin-producing neurons in the same nucleus were hyperinnervated. These data suggest that the target neuron peptide (vasopressin) is necessary for the maintenance of normal noradrenergic innervation patterns.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Scholer, J -- Sladek, J R Jr -- AG 00847/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- MH 14577/MH/NIMH NIH HHS/ -- NS 15816/NS/NINDS NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1981 Oct 16;214(4518):347-9.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7053181" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: Vasopressin neurons, transplanted from normal rat fetuses into the third ventricle of adult Brattleboro rats, alleviate the polydipsia and polyuria of the hosts. Determination of the antidiuretic activity of grafted neurons in hosts with congenital diabetes insipidus provides a convenient model for analyzing the development, plasticity, and function of transplanted central nervous system neurons in mammals.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Gash, D -- Sladek, J R Jr -- Sladek, C D -- AM 16166/AM/NIADDK NIH HHS/ -- NS 15109/NS/NINDS NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1980 Dec 19;210(4476):1367-9.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7434031" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
