    Description / Table of Contents: The means and methods of packaging technology to prevent the corrosion of package goodsProtection of products in packages is achieved by “barriers” preventing the diffusion of atmospheric moisture either with the aid of more or less impermeable walls or by addition of desiccants or vapour phase inhibitors. The walls can be constituted by envelopes or coatings. With the aid of tables showing available materials and methods it is possible to “design” suitable corrosion protection systems.
    Notes: Der Schutz von in Verpackungen befindlichen Produkten wird erreicht durch „Barrieren“, welche die Diffusion der atmosphärischen Feuchtigkeit verbinden, und zwar entweder mit Hilfe von mehr oder weniger undurchlässigen Wänden oder durch Zusatz von Trockenmitteln oder Gasphaseninhibitoren. Die Wände können dabei durch Umhüllungen oder Überzüge gegeben sein. Mit Hilfe von Tabellen, welche die verfügbaren Stoffe und Methoden einander gegenüber stellen, ist es möglich, geeignete Korrosionsschutzsysteme aufzubauen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Application of dynamic system analysis for investigating oxygen corrosion of iron in neutral aerated solutionsThe oxygen corrosion of iron was investigated in neutral aerated sulphate solutions using electrochemical dc and ac methods as well as non-electrochemical solution analysis. In order to interpret the electrochemical impedance spectra, a physical model was developed and its theoretical transfer function was discussed. The optimum fit of the theoretical transfer function to the experimental data gave system-specific parameters characterizing quantitatively the corrosion rate in the presence of porous 3-D layers and the mechanism of interphase inhibition by added 1,6 hexane-biphosphonic acid.
    Notes: In neutralen, belüfteten sulfathaltigen Lösungen wurde die Sauerstoffkorrosion von Reinsteisen mit Hilfe stationärer und dynamischer elektrochemischer Messungen sowie nichtelektrochemischer Lösungs-analyse untersucht. Zur Interpretation der elektrochemischen Impedanzspektren wurde ein physikalisches Modell entwickelt und dessen theoretische Transferfunktion diskutiert. Optimale Anpassung der theoretischen Transferfunktion an die experimentellen Daten lieferte charakteristische systemspezifische Parameter, die über die Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit in Gegenwart von porösen 3-D Deckschichten und den Wirkungsmechanismus von 1,6 Hexan-biphosphonsäure als Interphaseninhibitor quantitative Aussagen erlauben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Practically no adhesion is observed at the interface poly(tetrafluoroethylene)/glass fiber. We have investigated methods to improve adhesion between these interfaces. We have also discussed the question of possible reinforcement, i.e. increase of tensile strength and a simultaneous decrease of elongation.In this first part we present some calculations demonstrating the prerequisites for reinforcement using existing theoretical models. We describe the influence of modification of the glass fiber surface by dispersion coating or by plasma polymerization.In a second part the influence of polymer surface modification and of additives will be dealt with.
    Notes: In Mehrphasensystemen aus Poly(tetrafluorethylen) (PTFE) und Glasfasern besteht praktisch keine Haftung zwischen Matrix und Füllstoff. Es wurde der Frage nachgegangen, ob es Wege zur Verbesserung der Grenzflächenhaftfestigkeit gibt und ob diese Verbesserungen ausreichen, eine Verstärkung, d. h. Anhebung der Reißfestigkeit bei gleichzeitigem Rückgang der Dehnung des Gesamtsystems zu erzielen.In diesem ersten Teil wird den theoretischen Voraussetzungen und der Modifizierung der Füllstoffoberflächen mittels Dispersionsbeschichtungen sowie Plasmaätzen und Plasmapolymerisation nachgegangen.In einem zweiten Teil werden Möglichkeiten zur Verbesserung der Grenzflächenhaftung durch Modifizierung der Polymer-Oberfläche und durch Additive untersucht.

    Notes: Thin films of molybdenum oxysulphides which could be used as positive electrode materials in microbatteries were analysed by XPS. The results have shown the existence of a new environment for molybdenum with S22- pairs, S2- and O2- ions. The evolution of these thin films MoOySz at different stages of their cycle in experimental generators has also been studied; the main elements involved in the redox processes have been characterized: molybdenum atoms with +6 formal oxidation number and disulphide pairs S22-.

    Notes: PESA is a rigid rod polymer incorporating anthrylene units in its backbone. The photophysics of PESA in solution are representative of the isolated anthracene chromophore. In the solid state, strong interchain excimer emission is observed. Solid PESA undergoes efficient photocrosslinking which we assign to interchain anthracene dimer formation. Competitive quenching of photocrosslinking by diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate suggests that localized singlet excitation energy can migrate among chains until trapped by excimer formation. The excimer state is intermediate in photocrosslinking. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
