Notes: A quantitative treatment of the influence of secondary scattering on light scattering is presented and experimentally verified. It is shown that secondary scattering accounts for the apparent shortening of the cell dimensions and for the large apparent depolarizations found previously by other workers when using highly turbid solutions as calibration standards. Methods for obtaining the correct calibration constant and depolarization are suggested.
