Description / Table of Contents:
Corrosion protection problems in hydroengineering steel structures. Guidelines for the organization of corrosion testing stations for exposition to waterStarting from the main types of hydroengineering steel structures the different corrosion and erosion effects encountered are discussed and suitable anticorrosion measures presented. To this purpose the steel structures are divided in three classes, depending on the service conditions. The class requiring the most thorough protection includes those structures which are permanently exposed to the action of flowing water and the repair of which would require an excessive amount of work. Systems such as locks the availability of which is essential are generally in this class when their free surface exceeds 50 m2.The determination of the appropriate class of protection is based on a point system including indicator figures for the importance of the particular structure, the type of the exposition (above or below water line) and the type of attack (water quality, air quality, biological, mechanical and thermal influences). An annex contains additional data on corrosion testing stations in rivers ans lakes of Hungary and on experimental work with various coating combination.
Notes:
