Description:
Far Infrared Limb Observing Spectrometer is balloon-borne instrument measuring far-infrared emission from limb of atmosphere. Operates in two spectral channels in wave-number range of 101 to 118 cm(to the negative 1st power). Range contains spectral lines of several molecules and radicals of current scientific interest. Instrument designed primarily to obtain data on distribution of hydroxyl radicals, which play central role in chemistry of ozone in stratosphere. Measurements contribute to understanding of "ozone hole" in stratosphere.
