    Notizen: Abstract: EuB6, a ferromagnet with a Curie temperature of T C ∼ 15 K, exhibits very large magnetoresistive effects at temperatures both above and below T C . We present our magneto-optical investigations, including measurements of the reflectivity and Kerr rotation, covering the spectral range from the infrared up to the ultraviolet, as a function of temperature between 1.5 and 20 K and in external magnetic fields from 0 to 10 T. The Kerr rotation at high fields and low temperatures is enormous. The spectra reflect aspects of the large magnetoresistance and are shown to discriminate between the spectroscopic response of localized and itinerant electronic states in the ferromagnetic state.

We have measured the polar Kerr rotation, covering a spectral range from the infrared up to the ultraviolet, as a function of temperature between 1.5 and 20 K and in external magnetic fields between 0 and 10 T. The Kerr rotation in high fields and at low temperatures is enormous. Our observations, which implicitly reflect the large magnetoresistive effects, are shown to discriminate between the spectroscopic response of localized and itinerant electronic states. Our data analysis is based on the phenomenological Lorentz-Drude model, following from the classical dispersion theory and appropriately extended to magneto-optical experiments.

    Beschreibung: When DNA replication is inhibited during the synthesis (S) phase of the cell cycle, a signaling pathway (checkpoint) is activated that serves to prevent mitosis from initiating before completion of replication. This replication checkpoint acts by down-regulating the activity of the mitotic inducer cdc2-cyclin B. Here, we report the relation between chromatin structure and induction of the replication checkpoint. Chromatin was competent to initiate a checkpoint response only after the DNA was unwound and DNA polymerase alpha had been loaded. Checkpoint induction did not require new DNA synthesis on the unwound template strand but did require RNA primer synthesis by primase.
