    Beschreibung: The AVIRIS instrument has been designed to do high spectral resolution remote sensing of the Earth. Utilizing both silicon and indium antimonide line array detectors, AVIRIS covers the spectral region from 0.41 to 2.45 microns in 10-nm bands. It was designed to fly aboard NASA's U-2 and ER-2 aircraft, where it will simulate the performance of future spacecraft instrumentation. Flying at an altitude of 20 km, it has an instantaneous field of view of 20 m and views a swath over 10 km wide. With an ability to record 40 minutes of data, it can, during a single flight, capture 500 km of flight line.

    Beschreibung: Load-cell and acoustic responses indicate bonding condition nondestructively. Signal recorded by load cell direct and instantaneous measure of local stiffness of material at point of impact. Separate and distinctly different measurement that sensed by microphone. Spectrum analysis of pulse obtained from debonded point will only show frequencies below 425 Hz because insulation alone does not have stiffness to support energy at higher frequencies.

    Beschreibung: A lightweight instrument that utilizes resistance-wire electric strain gases to measure propeller-shaft thrust has been developed. A wind-tunnel investigation on a propeller installed, on a single-engine pursuit airplane showed that the instrument gave a reliable indication of propeller-shaft thrust to an accuracy of +/-2 percent within its calibrated range. No attempt was made to determine the relation of indicated shaft thrust to net propeller thrust.

    Beschreibung: Compact hand-held instrument measures airflow. Consists of hot-wire anemometer probe in flow-straightening tube that reduces swirling. Configuration developed empirically to reduce length of instrument to practical dimension for use and storage in confined space. Two versions of new straightener only 17 and 18 in. long. Weighs less than 8 lb. and readily stored on Space Shuttle, developed to measure airflow in waster-collection system during flight. Used on Earth to measure airflow in ventilation systems, vacuum cleaners, and the like.
