Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Der Haarzinkgehalt wurde in Haaren von Kindern aus Nord- und Südlibyen bestimmt.
Notes: Summary Hair zinc has been investigated in children of North and South Libya. The hair zinc content amounts to 213±36 μg/g in newborns. There is no difference between the values of newborns from North Libya and newborns from South Libya. The hair zinc values decrease during infancy. In toddlers and school-children the hair zinc content is 88±35 μg/g, 89±25 μg/g resp. These values are as low as those reported in American children with low height percentiles or nearly as low as those found in dwarfs with poor zinc status from Egypt and Iran.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Properties of Aluminium Hydroxide. I. Boehmite from Aluminium Nitrate and AmmoniaThe physical-chemical properties of mainly boehmite containing aluminium hydroxide are studied which were made by continuous precipitation from aluminium nitrate solution with ammonia liquor using technical raw materials and test conditions being very similar to those applied in production. The influence of the precipitation conditions (pH value, temperature, concentration and residence time in the precipitation solution) on the composition, structure and texture of the precipitation products is investigated and information about their effect on the filtration behaviour are given. In the case of a continuous precipitation it is possible to obtain phase-pure boehmite being relatively well crystallised. The crystallinity and dispersity of the precipitated hydroxide determine their filterability and the cavity structure.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XVIII. On the Suitability of Different Aluminas as Carriers for Al2O3/Cr2O3/K2O Impregnation Catalysts.Suitability of 10 Al2O3/Cr2O3/K2O catalysts prepared on the basis of various Al2O3 carriers for the dehydrocyclization of n-hexane was investigated. These catalysts were classified with respect to the dispersion of chromia by means of X-ray diffraction studies, measurement of spin intensity (β-phase, EPR signal), and reflectance spectroscopy. The accessible chromia surface area was determined by oxygen chemisorption measurements. Aluminas with a high surface area which don't restrict the accessibility to the chromia are suitable carriers.

Description / Table of Contents: Hydroxide Groups on Zeolites. I. Number and Properties of Hydroxide Groups on CaNaY and MgNaY Zeolites of Different Degree of Ion ExchangeThe number of hydroxide groups was studied on CaNaY and MgNaY zeolites by D2 exchange in dependence on the degree of exchange, and their properties were examined by infrared spectroscopy. At these zeolites there exist five types of hydroxide groups which differ by their concentration, their acidic strength, and their thermal stability. The OH-groups are produced mainly by dissociative chemisorption of water at the bivalent cations. The concentration of OH groups shows a characteristic dependence on the degree of ion exchange. There are OH groups which are strongly acid BRÖNSTED centers, capable of protonisation of pyridine, and others which are only capable of weak interactions with pyridine. The number of the acid BRÖNSTED centers increases with the degree of ion exchange analogous to the total number of the hydroxide groups and is highly dependent on the species of the cations exchanged and on the preheating temperature. Compared with CaNaY zeolites, MgNaY zeolites posess a greater number of hydroxide groups which are thermally more stable.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXIX. Spectroscopic and Catalytic Investigations on Ni2+-, Co2+-, Cr3+-, and Cu2+-exchanged MordenitesNiNaM, CoNaM, CrNaM und CuNaM (M = Mordenite) have been characterized by UV-VIS, EPR and i.r. spectroscopy and the results were compared with the catalytic activity and the activity-time-dependence in the cracking of n-octane and with the shape selectivity in the cracking of a n-octane and isooctane mixture. Water molecules acting as ligands of the exchanged cations are able to dissociate yielding Brönsted acidity. Brönsted sites may be regarded as catalytic active centers in the cracking reaction. Unreduced transition metal cations facilitate the “coking” of the mordenite. The unreduced chromium and cobalt cations for which a position within the main channel is expected, affect the diffusion of the branched paraffin molecule thus increasing shape selectivity.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXX. Characterization of the Me2+ Localization in Zeolites CaNaY, MgNaY, and CaMgNaYData for exchange of the cations Ca2+, Mg2+, as well as Ca2+ and Mg2+ into the zeolite NaY have been determined. From this it was concluded on the localization of Me2+ cations in hydrated samples. The adsorption of ammonia in the temperature region of 420 to 670 K, the determination of the heats of immersion in water and nitromethane and the Me2+ —CO-interaction indicated by IR spectroscopy yielded informations on the localization of cations in dehydrated samples. The results show that cations Ca2+ more selectively than cations Mg2+ occupy positions in the small cages. In the case of the competitive cation exchange this fact causes a site directed distribution of cations in zeolite cages.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXXV. Redoxbehaviour of Nickel in Zeolite NiNaY. 2. Investigation on the Dispersion of Ni- und Ni/NiO-Species in Reduced and Reoxidized NiNaY SamplesOxygen chemisorption and electronmicroscopic measurements (ultramicrotome technique) correspondingly show a decrease of the metal dispersion with increasing reduction temperature (470-870 K) and exchange degree (10, 29, 54 equ.-% resp.). Contrary to this results electronmicroscopic measurements with replica technique don't reflect such a dependence. Increase of particle size after reoxidation (470 K) and reduction at 470 to 870 K (regeneration) of the NiNaY samples are attributed on the one hand to the aggregation of oxidic particles and on the other hand to metal sintering by the subsequent reduction step. A decrease of dispersion after a reoxidation process at 670 K is caused by formation and relocalisation of isolated nickel ions.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXXVII. On the Influence of Preparation Conditions on the Properties of Silica-AluminaSilica-alumina samples of different composition were prepared by coprecipitation from aqueous solutions at pH = 6 and pH = 9, respectively. Structures and properties of the solids were characterized (i.r., DTA, X-ray, molybdato method, surface acidity, catalytic activity in the cracking reaction of cumene). Solid composition and pH value of the precipitation medium equally exhibit influence on the structure of the silica-alumina (kind of incorporation of the aluminium) and thereby on the acidic and catalytic properties of the solids. Silica-alumina of equal composition but precipitated at different pH values may widely differ in their properties including activity-composition dependency.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Oxide Catalysts. XXXVI. Structure and Thermal Behaviour of Silica-AluminaThe effect of thermal treatment up to 500°C on silica-alumina was studied by i.r. investigation in the lattice vibration region and the condensation degree of the silicate fragments in the silica-alumina was characterized using the molybdato method. The results of both methods demonstrate the proton form of the amorphous alumosilicates to be thermal instable and to undergo extraction of the aluminium from the alumosilicate lattice. The consequences resulting from this process on the catalytic efficiency of silica-alumina in the cracking reaction of cumene are discussed.
