Notizen: Abstract Standard enthalpies of solution of t-BuX and CX4 (X=Cl and Br) in several alcohols are reported as measured by a calorimetric method. The corresponding transfer functions from the gas phase were calculated.

Notizen: Abstract The solution enthalpies at infinite dilution, ΔsH°, of the compounds t-BuCl and t-BuBr in 2-BuOH, i-BuOH, 2-PeOH and t-PeOH have been determined by solution calorimetry, between 25 and 40°C. The new results are discussed and compared with published values for other isomeric alcohols.

Notizen: Abstract To test the effect of seed treatment with fungicides on the development of mycorrhizal fungi, bean seeds were treated with fungicide dry or vehicled in the organic solvents, ethanol or dichloromethane and then planted in soil inoculated with the mycorrhizal fungus Glomus macrocarpum and/or the plant pathogenic fungus Fusarium solani. Measurements were made at 4 day intervals, to assess the presence of mycorrhizae or disease in the roots as well as top dry weight, root fresh weight and root length. Fungicidal seed treatment did not affect the initial occurrence of mycorrhizae, number of spores of G. macrocarpum in the soil or root length. Fresh weights of roots and dry weights of tops were greater in the presence of the mycorrhizal fungus. The onslaught of symptoms by F. solani was significantly retarded by treatment with fungicides plus mycorrhizal fungi or fungicides plus organic solvents.

Measurements were made at 4 day intervals, to evaluate the location and extent of colonization of either Glomus macrocarpum or Fusarium solani in the root system. Most combinations of fungicide-solvent had little effect on the extent of colonization by each fungus individually. However, when both fungi were inoculated together, symptoms of F. solani were seen only in the tips of roots which indicate that the mycorrhizal fungus was able to limit the occurrence of the pathogenic fungus.

Notizen: Summary The infradiaphragmatic section of vagi nerves at the level of the diaphragm crura causes, on the third day after surgery, a reduction of the mitotic activity in the crypts of the intestinal epithelium of the rat. Moreover there is a drastic reduction in number of the goblet cells that remain concentrated at the lower third of the villi. After the third day after vagotomy there is a tendency to normality. Sympathectomy did not affect significantly the intestinal epithelium of the rat. When both surgeries were performed together, there was no additive effect.

    Thema: Biologie , Medizin
Notizen: Summary The effect of autonomic denervation upon the kinetics of the ileal epithelium of rats was studied by tracing 3H-thymidine labelled nuclei and counting mitotic figures and goblet cells. Counts of labelled nuclei and goblet cells provided information about cell migration along the intestinal epithelium. The mitotic index and turnover time of this population were calculated from the mitotic figures counts. Comparing denervated animals with sham operated controls, it was possible to conclude that autonomic denervation, either sympathectomy or parasympathectomy results in a decrease in mitotic activity. As a result of lower mitotic activity in the crypts, the turnover time increases and there is a delay in the migration of cells from the crypts towards the villi. Sympathectomy causes an early short-lived effect upon the kinetics of the crypt cell population, since after 27 h there is a tendency to normality. Parasympathectomy produces a slower but continuous decline in mitotic activity.
