    Description / Table of Contents: Complexes with N,N,N′,N′-Tetrakis(2-hydroxybenzyl)ethylenediamine (H4tben). Crystal Structure of Ti(tben)The complexes of N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-ethylenediamine with titanium(IV), vanadium(IV), manganese(IV), and tin(IV) were synthesized and characterized by mass spectrometry. The Mössbauer date were evaluated for the tin compound. The molecular structure of the titanium(IV) complex was determined by X-ray structural analysis, crystallographic data see “Inhaltsübersicht”.
    Notes: Es wurden die Komplexe von N,N,N′,N′-Tetrakis(2-hydroxybenzyl)ethylendiamin mit Titan(IV), Vanadium(IV), Mangan(IV) und Zinn(IV) hergestellt und massenspektrometrisch charakterisiert. Für die Zinn-Verbindung wurden die Mössbauer-Daten ermittelt. Die Molekülstruktur des Titan(IV)-Komplexes wurde röntgenstrukturanalytisch bestimmt.     Description / Table of Contents: Reactions and Thermal Behaviour of Nonoxo Vanadium(IV) Complexes. Crystal Structures of Methoxo-oxo[thenoyltrifluoroacetone-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V) and Methoxo-oxo[benzoylacetone-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V)The persistence of non-oxo vanadium(IV) complexes in dichlormethane/methanol/water solutions was studied by UV/VIS spectroscopy. The reaction products methoxo-oxo-[thenoyltrifluoroacetone-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V) and methoxo-oxo[benzoylacetone-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V) were isolated and characterized by X-ray analysis. The thermal behaviour of non-oxo vanadium(IV) complexes was checked.
    Notes: Die Beständigkeit oxofreier Vanadium(IV)-Komplexe mit dreizähnigen diaciden Liganden in Dichlormethan/Methanol/Wasser wurde UV/VIS-spektroskopisch untersucht. Als Reaktionsprodukte wurden Methoxo-oxo-[thenoyl-trifluoraceton-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V) sowie Methoxo-oxo-[benzoylaceton-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V) isoliert und röntgenstrukturanalytisch charakterisiert. Das thermische Verhalten der oxofreien Vanadium(IV)-Komplexe wurde analysiert.Methoxo-oxo-[thenoyltrifluoraceton-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]-vanadium(V), Raumgruppe P21/a2, Z = 4, 3 124 beobachtete unabhängige Reflexe, R = 0,0579, Gitterabmessungen bei 25°C; a = 800,0(2) pm, b = 2 027,3(6) pm, c = 1 165,0(3) pm, β = 109,03(2)° Methoxo-oxo-[benzoylaceton-salicylhydrazonato(2-)]vanadium(V) Raumgruppe P21/c, Z = 4, 2 312 beobachtete unabhängige Reflexe, R = 0,031, Gitterabmessungen bei 25°C: a = 1 122,6(1) pm, b = 772,96(9) pm, c = 2 021,2(4) pm, β = 95,32(1)°.

    Description / Table of Contents: Titanium(IV) Complexes with Tridentate Diacidic Ligands. Crystal Structure of Bis[2,6-diphenacylpyridinato(2-)]titanium(IV)The titanium(IV) chelates with 2,2′-dihydroxy-azobenzene, salicylaldehyde-2-hydroxyanil, 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-8-quinolinol, 2,6-diphenacylpyridine as well as with aroylhydrazones of salicylaldehyde, benzoylacetone and thenoyltrifluoroacetone were synthesized by ligand exchange reactions of titanium(IV)-isopropoxide. The compounds are red or black in colour and were identified by distinct molecular peaks in the mass spectra. The crystal and molecular structure was determined for bis[2,6-diphenacylpyridinato(2-)] titanium(IV). Crystallographic data see “Inhaltsübersicht”.
    Notes: Durch Ligandenaustauschreaktion von Titan(IV)-isopropoxid mit 2,2′-Dihydroxyazobenzen, Salicylaldehyd-2-hydroxyanil, 2-(2′-Hydroxyphenyl)-chinolin-8-ol, 2,6-Diphenacylpyridin sowie Aroylhydrazonen-von Salicylaldehyd, Benzoylaceton und Thenoyltrifluoraceton wurden die Titan(IV)-Chelate dieser Liganden dargestellt. Die roten bis schwarzen Verbindungen zeigen im Massenspektrum das erwartete Molekülion. Für Bis[2,6-diphenacylpyridinato(2-)]-titan(IV) wurde die Kristall- und Molekülstruktur bestimmt: Gitterabmessungen bei 293 K, a = 1 448,6(7) pm, b = 776,1(5) pm, c = 1 520,7(5) pm, β = 104,65(3)°, Raumgruppe Pc, Z = 2, 3 755 unabhängige Reflexe, R = 5,5%.

    Notes: Durch Reaktion von Tris(acetylacetonato)vanadium(III) mit Salicylaldehyd-2-hydroxyanil wurde der oxofreie Vanadium(IV)-Komplex dieses Liganden dargestellt und durch Röntgenkristallstrukturanalyse die Struktur bestimmt. Bis[salicylaldehyd-2-hydroxyanilato(2 - )]vanadium(IV) besitzt eine verzerrt-oktaedrische Struktur. Raumgruppe P1, Z = 4, 2722 beobachtete, symmetrieunabhängige Reflexe, R = 7,1%. Gitterabmessungen bei 293 K: a = 964,6(1) pm, b = 1285,4(1) pm, c = 1788,9(2) pm, α = 81,42(1)°, β = 74,39(1)°, γ = 89,33(1)°.

Planar-octahedral Constitution Isomerism of Nickel Chelates with t-Butyl Substituted β-DiketonesThe nickel complexes of some differently substituted pivaloyacylmethanes are prepared and their association behaviour is studied. Beside the paramagnetic trimeres in some cases also the diamagnetic monomers can be isolated in the solid state. Equilibrium constants are determined for selected cases. The high tendency to associate, found for chelates with trifluoracetylpivaloylmethane and pentachlordibenzoylmethane when compared with their halogen-free homologues, shows the influence of electronic factors besides steric ones.
    Notes: Es werden die Nickelkomplexe einer Reihe unterschiedlich substituierter Pivaloylacylmethane dargestellt und ihr Assoziationsverhalten untersucht. Neben den paramagnetischen trimeren Assoziaten können in zahlreichen Fällen auch die diamagnetischen Monomeren in Substanz isoliert werden. Für ausgewählte Nickelkomplexe werden die Gleichgewichtskonstanten bestimmt. Die große Assoziationstendenz der Chelate mit Trifluoracetylpivaloylmethan und Pentachlordibenzoylmethan im Vergleich zu halogenfreien Homologen macht neben den sterischen Einflüssen auch das Wirken elektronischer Faktoren deutlich.

Metal Chelates of 2-Methyl-3-hydroxy-4-thiopyrone (Thiomaltol)Metal chelates of 2-methyl-3-hydroxy-4-thiopyrone with a series of metals are prepared as solids, the constitution of the complexes is determined in solution, and the extraction ability of the ligand for copper, nickel, cobalt and palladium is studied. Stability constants of the zinc and cadmium chelates are compared with those of thiodibenzoyl-methane.
    Notes: Eine Reihe von Metallchelaten des 2-Methyl-3-hydroxy-4-thiopyrons wird in Substanz dargestellt, die Komplexzusammensetzung in Lösung bestimmt und das Extraktionsverhalten des Liganden gegenüber Kupfer, Nickel, Kobalt und Palladium untersucht. Die Stabilitätskonstanten der Zink- und Cadmiumchelate werden mit denen für Thiobenzoylmethan verglichen.

Properties, Adduct Formation, and Extraction of Nickel(II) Chelates with n-Alkyl-8-quinolinols Containing Long Chain SubstituentsThe nickel(II) chelates of 5- and 7-nonyl-, 5- and 7-decyl- and 5-chlor-7-decyl-8-quinolinol as well as adducts with water and ammonia were synthesized and characterized by spectra and magnetic moments. The existence of associated forms was concluded. To characterize the influence of substituents the stability and composition of pyridine adducts in solution were determined. Finally the extraction of nickel(II) was studied, and a comparison of extraction data with acid and coordination stability constants was made in the case of the isomeric nonyl-8-quinolinols.
    Notes: Es wurden die Nickelchelate sowie Aquo- und Amminaddukte von 5- und 7-Nonyl-, 5- und 7-Decyl- sowie 5-Chlor-7-decylchinolin-8-ol dargestellt und spektroskopisch wie magnetochemisch untersucht. Daraus ist auf das Vorliegen assoziierter Formen zu schließen. Der Charakterisierung des Substituenteneinflusses diente die Bestimmung von Stabilität und Zusammensetzung der Pyridinaddukte in Lösung. Schließlich wurde die Extraktion von Nickel untersucht und am Beispiel der isomeren Nonylchinolin-8-ole ein Vergleich der Extraktionsdaten mit Säure- und Komplexstabilitätskonstanten vorgenommen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Crystal and Molecular Structure of Bis(N, N-diethyl-2-benzoylthioacetamidato)copper(II)Bis(N, N-diethyl-2-benzoyl-thioacetamidato)copper(II) has been investigated by X-ray structure analysis. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with a = 10.709, b = 12.150, c = 15.651 Å, α = 90.13, β = 103.73, γ = 98.30° and with 3 formula units per unit cell. The structure was solved by heavy atom technique. The final R value was 0.04 for 4151 symmetry independent reflections. The crystal contains two symmetry independent molecules. One of them shows a nearly planar cis-arrangement of the ligator atoms but the other has an exactly planar trans-arrangement. The chelate rings show a distorted planarity in both molecules. The results of the structure determination confirm the conclusions from the EPR crystal spectrum.
    Notes: Bis(N, N-diethyl-2-benzoyl-thioacetamidato)kupfer(II) wurde mittels Röntgenkristallstrukturanalysc untersucht. Es kristallisiert triklin in der Raumgruppe P1 mit den Gitterkonstanten a = 10,709, b = 12,150, c = 15,651 Å, α = 90,13, β = 103,73, γ = 98,30° und 3 Formeleinheiten pro Elementarzelle. Die Lösung der Struktur erfolgte mittels der Schweratommethode. Der abschließende R-Wert betrug R = 0,04 für 4151 symmetrieunabhängige Reflexe. Der Kristall enthält zwei symmetrieunabhängige Moleküle, von denen eines eine nahezu planare cis-Anordnung der Ligatoren, aufweist, während des andere eine exakt planare trans-Anordnung hat. Die Chelatringe zeigen in beiden Molekülen eine gestörte Planarität. Die Ergebnisse der Strukturbestimmung bestätigen die Vermutungen aus dem EPR-Kristallspektrum.

TG, DTG, and DTA data provide additional facts to redox behaviour and stability of the complexes. These data also allow a critical appreciation of the given melting temperatures.
    Notes: Im Rahmen grundlegender Untersuchungen zu Oxovanadium(IV)- bzw. (V)-Komplexen mit zweizähnigen Chelatbildnern werden aus den TG-, DTG- und DTA-Kurven ausgewählter Chelate zusätzliche Daten zum Redoxverhalten und zur Stabilität der Komplexe gewonnen. Die Thermogramme gestatten eine kritische Wertung gemessener Schmelzpunkte.
