Description / Table of Contents: Polymeric Tetramethyldiphosphane-Mercuric ChlorideDimethylchlorophosphane and mercury react slowly at elevated temperatures to yield orthorhombic crystals of polymeric TMP · HgCl2 [TMP = (CH3)2P—P(CH3)2]. The compound exhibits an unexpected high chemical stability. On heating it decomposes again into Hg and very pure (CH3)2PCl. The reaction with alkali hydroxide yields dimethylphosphane.
