    Notes: It is shown in this report that, under certain conditions, cleaning of exhaust air by absorption presents an interesting alternative to the existing methods. In particular, this process can be used with advantage for small quantities of exhaust air, high and strongly fluctuating solvent concentrations and solvent mixtures such as those occurring in batch operation. A washing agent was employed which had not been previously used for this purpose. Its properties, which were investigated in the laboratory, were confirmed during a 15-months' trial period in a semi-industrial plant. The process and plant were optimized for practical use. Through its option of solvent recovery from exhaust air, this physical absorption process contributes to environmental control.

    Notes: The production of dioxins/furans during waste incineration, and particularly the development of measures for minimizing the amount of generated pollutants, continue to command a considerable scientific as well public interest. Experiments are reported which were performed at the TAMARA municipal solid waste pilot incineration, erected on the premises of the karlsruhe Nuclear Research Centre. These experiments show that the solid waste mass flow rate and moisture content influence the dioxin/furan formation, Good removal efficiencies of dioxins/furans have been In wet cleaning. Hydrogen peroxide added to the crude gas is an interesting “killer” reagent for dioxins/furans.

Die freigesetzte Wärme löst eine totale Dechlorierung der Kondensationsprodukte und eine vollständige Oxydation der Aluminium-Späne aus.     Notes: Only in exceptional cases do literature data and computer programs suffice as a basis for the dimensioning of new engineering processes in the chemical industry. As a rule, the new process is constructed with all process steps on a laboratory scale and operated with original products. In doing this, use of made of MINIPLANT engineering, with each process step being performed on the smallest scale which will still permit reproducible operation. This eliminates the need for sophisticated pilot plant. This article presents MINIPLANT equipment for fluid processes such as distillation, rectification, evaporation, and liquid-liquid extraction, for which miniaturisation is farthest advanced. In the development of smaller equipment for solids processing such as drying, crystallisation, and size reduction, further efforts will be required. In conclusion, problem solutions in the area of automation and control are also addressed.

    Notes: Der Carbid-Ofenstaub stammt zum Teil aus dem Abrieb des Möllers, zum Teil entsteht er innerhalb des Ofens. Dort werden Magnesiumoxyd und Siliciumdioxyd bei über 2000 °C zu den Elementen reduziert und verdampft. Außerhalb des Ofens werden sie durch Kohlenoxyd reoxydiert und als Staub emittiert. Infolge Anreicherung des Staubes an Magnesiumoxyd läßt sich in der Umgebung der Carbid-Werke der Carbid-Staub in den Staubniederschlägen gut erkennen und so seine Reichweite bestimmen. Die weitaus größte Menge des Staubes aus Cardid-Öfen wird schon innerhalb einer Entfernung zwischen 2 und 2,5 km abgeschieden, da sich unmittelbar nach Verlassen des Ofenherdes große und spezifisch schwere Teilchen bilden. Mit einem Konimeter wurde der Gehalt der Luft an Staubteilchen unter 10 μ gemessen und festgestellt, daß die Teilchenzahl pro cm3 Luft nur zum Teil von der Entfernung von der Emissionsquelle, zum anderen Teil aber von der Teilchengröße abhängig ist.

    Notes: Die Trägerdampf-Destillation ist zwar der Vakuum-Destillation in wärmetechnischer und zum Teil auch in apparativer Hinsicht unterlegen; dennoch gibt es spezielle Fälle, für die sie besondere Vorteile bietet. So ist es z. B. günstig, nach der Veresterung Dimethylterephthalat mit Methanol als Trägerdampf zu rektifizieren, da dieses ohnehin im Reaktionsprodukt enthalten ist. Auf diesen Prozeß wird nach Erarbeitung der verfahrenstechnischen Grundlagen ausführlich eingegangen.
