Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Selenium Compounds. LXV. On Compounds of the Type (CH3O)3 SeX with X = F, Cl, Br, NO3, AlCl4Reaction of Se(OCH3)4 with SeX4(X = Cl, Br)(mole ratio 3:1) yields (CH3O)3SeX. The compounds (CH3O)3SeX (X = F, NO3) are formed by reaction of (CH3O)3SeCl with the silver salts AgF and AgNo3, respectively. (CH3O)3SeAlcl4 is prepared by reaction of (CH3O)3SeCl with AlCl3. Some properties of the synthezised compounds and the ir spectra are given. From their data deduction concerning the nature of the chemical bonds in the compounds (CH3O)3SeX are possible.

Description / Table of Contents: Studies on Selenium Compounds. LXIX. On the Reactivity of Diphenyl Selenium Dihalides with Ammonia, Alkyl- and SilylaminesThe halides Ph2SeX2 (Ph = C6H5; X = Cl, Br) are reduced by NH3, MeNH2 and Me2NH (Me = CH3) at -60°C forming Ph2Se. The reaction of Ph2SeCl2 with Me3SiNMe2 yields Ph2Se(NMe2)Cl, whereas with (Me3Si)2NH the salt [Ph2Se=N=SePh2]Cl is formed. The infrared spectra are presented and discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: RAMAN and IR-spectra of (CH3O)2SeO, (C2H5O)2SeO, and CH3O · SeO · OC2H5 are given and discussed. Because of the fact that couplings between the CH-oscillations within the alkyl groups and between CH-oscillations and that of the C—O—-Se-sceletons are allowed to be neglected, it is possible to discuss the spectra.

Description / Table of Contents: The RAMAN and IR-spectra of solid and molten CH3O · SeO · OH and C2H5O · SeO · OH are given and discussed. Couplings between the CH-, OH-, and C—O—SeO2-or C2—O—SeO2- sceleton vibrations are allowed to be neglected. Therefore, the vibrations of these three groups are discussed separately. In these compounds strong H-bonds are formed with SeO-double bonds of neighboured molecules. The strength of the H-bonds increases from liquid to solid state. The spectra confirm the results of chemical researches given recently: all compounds crystallizing from alcoholic solutions of SeO2 have the constitution RO · SeO · OH but not R—SeO3H or SeO2 · ROH.

Description / Table of Contents: SeO2 and H2SeO3 completely react with CH3OH or C2H5OH yielding RO · SeO · OH, (RO)2SeO, and H2O. In these reactions hydrolize, esterification and esterinteraction equilibria are involved. The compounds RO · SeO · OH have been isolated by crystallisation, the compounds (RO)2SeO by distillation. CH3O · SeO · OC2H5 has been prepared from C2H5O · SeO · OH and CH2N2 and from Cl · SeO · OC2H5, CH3OH, and C5H5N, respectively. The reaction of SeO2 dissolved in CH3OH or C2H5OH with CH2N2 gives (CH3O)2SeO and (C2H5O)2SeO, respectively, in good yields.SO2 reacts with aliphatic alcohols only to a small extent forming RO · SO · OH. (RO)2SO is not formed.

Description / Table of Contents: The RAMAN-spectra of CH3SeO2H and C2H5SeO2H in different states (solid, in H2O, in CH3OH) and the IR-spectra in KBr are given and discussed. Strong H-bonds, which are strongest in CH3SeO2H, cause association in solid and in solved state. The molecule C2H5SeO2H forms in solution (in H2O, in CH3OH, in KBr) two rotational isomeric configurations. In contrast to the compounds H2SeO3 and RO · SeO · OH, methanol does no esterify CH3SeO2H and C2H5SeO2H. Some chemical, physical, and physiologic properties are given.

Description / Table of Contents: The compounds F · SeO · OCH3, F · SeO · OC2H5, Cl · SeO · OC2H5, and Cl · SeO · OCH3 are synthesized by mixing of molar amounts of SeOF2 or SeOCl2 with (CH3O)2SeO and (C2H5O)2SeO, respectively F · SeO · OC2H5 results from the reaction of Cl · SeO · OC2H5 with KF, too. Contrary to the reaction SeOCl2 + C2H5OH, which leads to Cl · SeO · OC2H5, SeOCl2 reacts with CH3OH incompletely forming Cl · SeO · OCH3. The equilibrium Cl · SeO · OCH3 + C2H5OH → Cl · SeO · OC2H5 + CH3OH is shifted in favour of the ethyl ester. The compounds F · SeO · OR are not formed by the reaction of SeOF2 with alcohols. Some physical and chemical properties of the new compounds are given.
Notes: Die Verbindungen F · SeO · OCH3, F · SeO · OC2H5, Cl · SeO · OCH3 und Cl · SeO · OC2H5 werden durch Vermischen molarer Mengen von SeOF2 bzw. SeOCl2 mit (CH3O)2SeO bzw. (C2H5O)2SeO hergestellt.
