Notizen: Summary An enzyme that catalyzes 2′-O-phosphorylation of oleandomycin and several other macrolide antibiotics has been purified approximately 47-fold from cell-free extracts ofStreptomyces coelicolor Müller, NRRL 3532 (UC™ 5240). The reaction product was verified as being oleandomycin-2′-O-phosphate by mass spectrometry. As a result of purification, the enzyme was separated from two lincosaminide inactivating enzyme activities also present in the cell-free extract.

Beschreibung: The Apollo 13 anomaly provided considerable impetus for a variety of types of cryogenic and ignition tests. The logic of the various test program designs, the test techniques, and their final impact upon the investigation findings are described. In addition, several test programs initiated to determine the thermal performance and general performance characteristics of the redesigned Apollo 14 cryogenic storage system are presented.

Beschreibung: Data was obtained on silicone-bonded fiberglass, isocyanurate foam, and two dozen other insulators. Materials were selected to withstand heat sterilization, outer space, and the Martian atmosphere. Significant environmental parameters were vibration, landing shock, and launch venting.

Beschreibung: Preliminary Ar-40/Ar-39 age spectrum and laser probe dating results from new drill core from the 35-km-diameter Manson Impact Structure (MIS), Iowa indicates a reasonable possibility that the MIS is a Cretaceous-Tertiary (K-T) boundary impact event. Several different types of samples from a melt-matrix breccia, a unit of apparent crater fill intersected by the M1 core, were analyzed. Ar-40/Ar-39 results from these samples indicate a maximum age for the MIS of about 65.4 plus or minus 0.4(2 sigma) Ma. Petrographic analyses of the samples indicate a high probability that all the dated samples from the melt-matrix breccia contain relict grains that were not entirely melted or degassed at the time of impact, suggesting that the actual age of the MIS could be somewhat younger than our preliminary results indicate. The results are consistent with a previously published age estimate of shocked microcline from the MIS central uplift of 65.7 plus or minus 1.0 Ma.

Beschreibung: Description of the design and testing of a recuperated, closed Brayton-cycle, electrical power conversion system designated the Brayton Cycle Demonstrator (BCD). The system uses electrical heaters as a heat source, argon as the cycle working fluid, and gas-lubricated foil-type bearings. Objectives of the test program include (1) evaluation of the overall system performance characteristics and influences on spacecraft integration, (2) familiarization of personnel with operational methods, and (3) determination of system flexibility by operating at a number of off-design conditions. Results obtained to date are discussed.
