Notizen: Summary The notochord of Ichthyophis glutinosus and I. kohtaoensis consists of peripheral flattened cells characterized by a well-developed system of rough endoplasmic reticulum, bundles of tonofilaments, and abundant glycogen particles. These cells contain furthermore fairly high activities of α-naphtyl-acetate esterase and 4-chloro-5-bromoindoxyl acetate esterase as well as acid phosphatase which was found in lysosomal localization. The huge intracellular vacuoles of the centrally situated cells possibly originate from electron translucent spaces within the glycogen fields of the peripheral cells. The notochord sheath consists of variously differentiated layers of collagen fibers and of an elastica externa. The diameters of the collagen fibers increase from the inner towards the outer region of the sheath. A peculiar feature of the Ichthyophis notochord sheath is a ring of mineralized collagen. The notochord of the caecilians investigated is compared with that of anurans, urodeles, and several groups of fish.

Notizen: Summary Cytochemical and ultrastructural studies have been carried out on the hepatic caecum, hyperpharyngeal groove and endostyle of Branchiostoma lanceolatum. The following enzymes have been demonstrated: acid and alkaline phosphatase, ATP-ase, aminopeptidase, α-naphthyl-acetate- and indoxyl-acetate esterase, glucosaminidase, arylsulphatase, NADH-and NADPH-diaphorase. The hyperpharyngeal groove proved to be particularly rich in enzymes. The epithelial cells of the hepatic caecum possess at their bases numerous lipid droplets and in the supranuclear cytoplasm granules which presumably contain digestive enzymes. The epithelium of the hyperpharyngeal groove is characterized by large basal vacuoles and apical secretion granules. The electron microscope confirms the existence of several cell zones in the endostyle. The cells of the esterase rich zones 2 and 4/5 possess a well developed system of granulated E. R. as well as globular inclusions which presumably represent mucus droplets. In zone 4 in addition a great number of lipid inclusions and specific electron dense secretion granules occur. In the acid phosphatase rich zones 1, 3 and 6 the cilia-bearing cells are arranged in typical columns.

Notizen: Epithelial and cuticular linings of the stomach investigated in three species representing different genera of the Mysidacea are elaborated into a set of structural specializations dividing the stomach longitudinally into one dorsal and two ventral channels. The dorsal, or food, channel contains ingested food and retains coarse particles, which eventually are transported into the midgut through a funnel. The ventral, or filtration, channels, which are separated by an anterior and a posterior median ridge (anteromedianum, inferomedianum), contain fine particles and soluble materials extracted from the dorsal channel through two filter systems: primary filters, which lie anteriorly on either side of the anteromedianum, and posterior secondary filters, which are located on the inferomedianum. The final filtrate is transported into the ventral caeca or midgut glands. The ultrastructure of the cuticle lining the lumen of the stomach shows several specializations, the most prominent of which are stout spines and delicate filter devices. The epithelium is multilayered in circumscribed areas (the lateralia). The basement lamina is extremely developed in the inferomedianum. Detailed knowledge of the microscopic anatomy and the ultrastructure of the stomach allows identification of several homologous gastric structures among different peracaridean groups and in Decapoda.
