    Description: Space-borne earth observation has been important to monitor the earth condition and played a critical role in validating other instruments or modeling's outputs. However, the data from satellite earth observation are usually very complex in terms of science contents, formats, and spatiotemporal granularities, making them difficult to use from many aspects. NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC), one of the 12 official NASA data centers, archives and distributes rich collections of data from multiple satellite missions and model results. The GES DISC is also the official archive center for data from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) aboard NASA's Aura mission since 2004. Recently, the GES DISC has been evolving and improving its data management and services in order to promote NASA data to be easily discovered and accessed, as well as to facilitate interoperability. We'll show in this presentation how to explore and analyze NASA earth observation data for air quality through a suite of user-friendly tools - from Worldview to Giovanni, demonstrating in using this set of tools prepares us to serve the Sentinel 5P TROPOMI to the community.

    Description: The NASA Rapid Response system started in 2001 by serving static subsets of Near Real Time MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) imagery acquired from the Terra satellite. Over this time, Rapid Response has been used to support near real time applications such as wildfire and sea ice mapping for hundreds of thousands of users. In 2011, the toolset expanded to include GIBS, the Global Imagery Browse Services, which provides a web map tiling service of over 700 imagery products, and Worldview (https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov/), an interactive web application that showcases the products available in GIBS. This year a new application, Worldview Snapshots, has been added to complete the toolset by providing a flexible, low bandwidth method to download personalized subsets for those who do not need or cannot use a fully featured web mapping application. The original Rapid Response subset tool has been retired and we thank it for its seventeen years of service. Stop by to learn more about the next generation of NASA Rapid Response.

    Description: NASA Worldview is an interactive interface for browsing full-resolution, global satellite imagery. The application can show single or multiple layers of satellite imagery with over 700 layers available. Each layer has options such as opacity and color palettes which can be adjusted to differentiate layers or underlying data values. The timeline feature allows end-users to study historical events: changes over time can be visualized using the animation tool and exported to animated GIFs. Users can even compare two separate days using the A|B comparison feature. Every time the state of the application changes, it is saved in the URL making it easy to share findings with others.The application is accessible online for anyone to use at any time and the source code is available on GitHub.com. The Worldview source code was designed to be customizable allowing end users to turn on/off features and brand the application for their specific use case. Worldview has code contributors and end-users from all over the world who use the official tool and create personal instances to test and convey their own data.From a team of scientists studying weather over the Philippines, to a group in France studying high environmental risks, Worldview's features and portability allows end-users all over the World to gain valuable earth science insights in a multitude of ways. This presentation will emphasis how end-users are using Worldview to convey their findings.

    Description: For more than 20 years, the NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) has operated dozens of remote sensing satellites collecting nearly 15 Petabytes of data that span thousands of science parameters. Within these observations are keys the Earth Scientists have used to unlock many discoveries that we now understand about our planet. Also contained within these observations are a myriad of opportunities for learning and education. The challenge is making them accessible to educators and students in intuitive and simple ways so that effort can be spent on lesson enrichment and not overcoming technical hurdles. The NASA Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) system and NASA Worldview website provide a unique view into EOS data through daily full resolution visualizations of hundreds of earth science parameters. For many of these parameters, visualizations are available within hours of acquisition from the satellite. For others, visualizations are available for the entire mission of the satellite. Accompanying the visualizations are visual aids such as color legends, place names, and orbit tracks. By using these visualizations, educators and students can observe natural phenomena that enrich a scientific education.

    Description: NASA's Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) leverages scientific and community best practices and standards to provide a scalable, compliant, and authoritative source for NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) Earth science data visualizations. Since 2013, its goal has been to "transform how end users interact and discover [EOS] data through visualizations." Imagery layers within GIBS allow end users to easily and quickly interact with full resolution, pre-generated visualizations of scientific parameters. This interactive discovery approach relies on visual observation and identification of phenomena that are not as simply identified otherwise.

    Description: NASA's Land, Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS (LANCE) is a virtual system that provides near real-time EOS data and imagery from the AIRS, AMSR2, LIS (ISS), MISR, MLS, MODIS, MOPITT, OMI, OMPS, and VIIRS instruments, to meet the needs of scientists and application users interested in monitoring a wide variety of natural and man-made phenomena. NRT imagery from LANCE are available through NASA's Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS), Worldview, FIRMS and most recently through Worldview Snapshots a low band width application that has replaced the Rapid Response Subsets. Over the past year: data and imagery from the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) on board the International Space Station (ISS), OMPS and VIIRS-Land have been added to LANCE. In the coming year LANCE will integrate the MODIS NRT Global Flood product, VIIRS Black Marble nighttime lights and Cloud Mask and Aerosol Dark Target from VIIRS Atmosphere. Here we provide a brief overview of LANCE, focusing on what's new and describing how these new data sets have been used to monitor lightning flashes, hurricanes and fires.     Description: NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) provides near-real time active fire / hotspot products from MODIS and VIIRS to users in over 160 countries. The goal of FIRMS is to meet the needs of natural resource and protected area managers that face considerable challenges in obtaining timely satellite-derived information on fires burning within and around their management area. FIRMS has been reliably providing active fire / hotspot data in easy to use formats since its inception in 2006. Fire information is provided through a web map interface, email alerts, a web mapping service, and a range of downloadable files (SHP, CSV, KML and JSON). FIRMS data are used directly by end users and by brokers who take the data and add value to it before re-distributing it.FIRMS was initially developed by the University of Maryland in 2006; it was funded by the United Nations FAO and NASA's Applied sciences program under a NASA ROSES call. In 2012 FIRMS became integrated in to NASA's Land Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS (LANCE); a virtual system that leverages NASAs existing science processing capabilities to deliver NRT data from ten instruments within 3 hours of satellite overpass. This presentation will describe the FIRMS system, provide an overview of the system, briefly describe some of the known applications and describe plans to further integrate the data in to NASA's Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) public mapping services and Worldview website.

    Description: NASA's Land, Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS (LANCE) supports application users interested in monitoring a wide variety of natural and man-made phenomena. Near Real- Time (NRT) data and imagery from the AIRS, AMSR2, MISR, MLS, MODIS, OMPS, OMI and VIIRS instruments are available much quicker than routine processing allows. Most data products are available within 3 hours from satellite observation. NRT imagery are generally available 3-5 hours after observation. This article describes the LANCE and the enhancements made to the LANCE over the last year. These enhancements include the addition of NRT products from AMSR2, MISR, OMPS and VIIRS. In addition, the selection of LANCE NRT imagery that can be interactively viewed through Worldview and the Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) has been expanded. Next year, data from the MOPITT will be added to the LANCE.

    Description: The world around us is constantly in motion. Storms swirl, fires rage, volcanoes erupt and icebergs calve. NASAs fleet of Earth Observing System (EOS) satellites are there to capture this. Within hours of satellite overpass, NASAs Worldview (https://worldview.earthdata.nasa.gov) delivers this global, near-real time imagery through an interactive web map application. Provided through NASAs Land Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS (LANCE) (https://earthdata.nasa.gov/lance) via NASAs Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) (https://earthdata.nasa.gov/gibs), the near real-time satellite imagery provides a launching point to discover where the latest wildfires, severe storms, volcanic eruptions, and calving ice shelves are happening. This poster will explore the newest near real-time satellite imagery and soon-to-be available imagery in Worldview, including imagery from geostationary satellites - GOES-East/West and Himawari-8. The poster will cover recent and future improvements to Worldview aimed to enhance the discovery and interaction with near real-time imagery and show how it is used by people from researchers, to meteorologists to the science-minded public around the world.
