Description: A laser velocimeter frequency domain signal processor is described which utilizes smart instrumentation to configure itself to maximize measurement accuracy based on the determined characteristics of the input signals. The stystem provides the same measurement capabilities as the high-speed burst counter in instantaneous measurements of signal frequency, the same automatic gain control and automatic frequency control as the frequency tracker, and the same immunity to signal-to-noise derived errors as the photon correlator. Simulation results demonstrate measurement accuracies of better than 0.2 percent for signal frequencies up to 100 MHz.

Description: The average exposure to carbon fibers which produced a short and potential shock hazard in a household toaster was determined. Toasters are normally in the off state. They are used for brief periods during the day and have timed cycles during which power is applied. The possibility of a short occurring from the heating element to the case was investigated to find the exposure levels at which a potential shock hazard could appear. The short produced was tested to determine its importance.

Description: Unprotected quick disconnect electrical connectors were exposed to fibers of 3mm, 7mm, and 12mm lengths. The average exposure to failure was determined. Results indicate that when the fiber length divided by the airgap is less than one, multiple fibers are required to bridge the gap, and the exposure time to failure rises rapidly.
