Beschreibung: The National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) has accumulated a rich archive of heliospheric, magnetospheric, and ionospheric data, as well as data from most other NASA-involved science disciplines. To facilitate access to and use of these data, NSSDC has begun to put selected data onto CD-ROM's. This paper describes one such CD-ROM, and the access and display software developed at NSSDC to support its use. The data on the CD-ROM consist primarily of hourly solar wind magnetic field and plasma data from many near-Earth spacecraft (OMNI) and deep space spacecraft (Voyagers, Pioneers, Helios, Pioneer Venus Orbiter). In addition, 5-minute resolution IMP-8 and ISEE-3 magnetic field and plasma data are also included. Data are stored in both ASCII and CDF formats.

Beschreibung: The main characteristics of the IMP spacecraft and experiments are considered and the scientific knowledge gained is presented in the form of abstracts of scientific papers using IMP data. Spacecraft characteristics, including temporal and spatial coverages, are presented followed by an annotated bibliography. Experiments conducted on all IMP's (including prelaunch IMP's H and J) are described. Figures are presented showing the time histories, through the end of 1970, of magnetic field, plasma, and energetic particle experiments.

Beschreibung: The current Heliophysics Science Data Management Policy (HpSDMP) defines the roles of the Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF) project as a heliophysics active Final Archive (aFA), a focus for critical data infrastructure services and a center of excellence for data and ancillary information services. This presentation will highlight (1) select current SPDF activities, (2) the lessons we are continuing to learn in how to usefully serve the the heliophysics science community and (3)SPDF's programmatic emphasis in the coming year. In cooperation with the Heliophysics Virtual discipline Observatories (VxOs), we are working closely with current, and with upcoming missions such as RBSP and MMS, to define effective approaches to ensure the long-term availability and archiving of mission data, as well as how SPDF services can complement active mission capabilities. We are working to make the Virtual Space Physics Observatory (VSPO) service comprehensive in all significant and NASA relevant heliophysics data. We will highlight a new CDAWeb interface, a faster SSCWeb, availability of our data through VxO services such as Autoplot, a new capability to easily access our data from within IDL and continuing improvements to CDF including better handling of leap seconds.

Beschreibung: The MIT portion of this project was to use the plasma data from IMP 8 to identify bow shock crossings for construction of a bow shock data base. In collaboration with Goddard, we determined which shock parameters would be included in the catalog and developed a set of flags for characterizing the data. IMP 8 data from 1973-2001 were surveyed for bow shock crossings; the crossings apparent in the plasma data were compared to a list of crossing chosen in the magnetometer data by Goddard. Differences were reconciled to produce a single list. The data were then provided to the NSSDC for archiving. All the work ascribed to MIT in the proposal was completed.
