Summary InCentaurea bella Trautv. two types of guaianolides occur the first with an ester group at C2 characteristic for this plant, and the second at C8 characteristic for other plants fromCentaurea L. Mobile phases have been investigated for the separation of these compounds by column and thin-layer chromatography. Colours of spots of guaianolides developed after spraying with concentrated sulphuric acid are correlated with substitution.
