Notes: Abstract The reactions induced by 143 MeV32S on58Ni have been studied detecting discrete γ-rays in coincidence with projectile-like fragments (PLF). Information on PLF excitation probability and sequential decay of target-like fragments (TLF) has been obtained. For the28Si+62Zn outgoing channel at small energy loss (¦Q¦〈20 MeV), both PLF and TLF data indicate that thermal equilibrium is not attained. The hypothesis of an equal excitation energy partition between the two reaction fragments does not describe properly experimental TLF data. A dependence of PLF excitation probability on the outgoing channel is found for the two final channels32S+58Ni and28Si+62Zn. The values of the spin alignment parameterP zz, derived for PLF and TLF from measurements ofγ-rays anisotropy, are in disagreement with the expectations of the transport theory for dissipative collisions.

Notes: Abstract The deep-inelastic reaction induced by 143 MeV32S on58Ni have been studied detecting projectile-like fragments (PLF) in coincidence withγ-rays in NaI(TI) scintillators. γ-ray multiplicity and anisotropy have been derived for Zplf=14, 15 as a function of energy loss and/or γ-energy. The information obtained are compared with a discrete γ-line study of the same reaction. The effect of the exit channel selection (ejectileZ, energy loss,E γ) on the γ-observables is discussed in connection with the evidence of a strong PLF γ-emission.

Notes: Abstract Climatic data from 444 weather-recording stations in the Mediterranean basin are examined by cluster analysis and principal component analysis. The application of numerical clustering distinguished several groups of climatic stations clearly interpretable in geographic and climatic terms. The hierarchical structure of the dendrograms could be used to identify at different scales uniform climatic regions. The complementary application of principal component analysis produced an ordination of climatic types, which clearly showed the main trends of variation in the precipitation and temperature patterns.

Notes: Abstract Monthly precipitation and monthly mean temperature records from 255 meteorological stations in Central Spain (Spanish Sistema Central) were analyzed by cluster and principal component analyses. Classification separated 14 groups according to altitude, geographical distribution, as well as the combination of rainfall and temperature. The first cluster emerged as significantly higher and colder than the second. Then, two ordinations were carried out: one for the 14 groups extracted from the classification and a second for the total station pool. The second ordination was compared with potential natural vegetation data taken around each station. The first ordination summarized the principal climatic characteristics of the Spanish Sistema Central: its behaviour is that of a typical Mediterranean mountainous territory combining summer aridity and variation of temperature with altitude and the influence of winter winds. The ordination of all stations reflected a thermal, rainfall and summer aridity gradient. Meteorological stations situated at the highest altitude or with highest precipitation records characterized by scrub communities or pine woods and Quercus pyrenaica forests, appeared well-separated along the first two axes. Only the most thermophilous Q. rotundifolia associations could be clearly separated. The fourth axis was useful in clarifying some vegetation overlap of deciduous and sclerophyllous forests, along an east-west summer aridity gradient. Nomenclature: Tutin et al. (1964-1980) for plants; Rivas-Martínez (1987) and Rivas-Martínez et al. (1987) for syntaxa.
