Multistep Redox Systems, L. - Adducts from N,N′-Dicyanoquinone Diimines with Tetrathiafulvalenes - A New Class of CT Complexes with Electrical ConductivityFrom 26 N,N′-dicyanoquinone diimines (DCNQIs) with 0-3 substituents (3a-z) and tetrathiafulvalene (2) 19 CT complexes 3 · 2 (1:1) were obtained. Powder conductivities were found to be σ ≈ 0.1 S cm-1 (4 examples), 10-2-10-5 S cm-1 (8 examples), and σ 〈 10-7 S cm-1 (7 examples). In some cases these conductivities could be connected with crystal structures of aggregated and mixed stacks, respectively. The difference in crystal structures seems to depend mainly on the number, position, and size of the substituents. A connection with the reduction potentials of DCNQIs (0.15-0.65 V) as well as with the IR bands of the cyano groups could not be found.
Notes:
