Notes: 1.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Characterization of Tetrakis(bromo-iodo)oxalatoosmates(IV)On treatment of [OsI4ox]2- with Br- all geometric isomers of the mixed complexes [OsBrnI4-2ox]2-, n = 1, 2, 3, are formed. They are differently coloured and can be separated by ion exchange chromatography on diethylaminoethyl cellulose. The IR and Ra spectra are assigned according to point groups C2v, Cs, C1. In the NIR region of the 10 K absorption spectra the intraconfigurational transitions splitted by spin-orbit coupling and lowered symmetry are well resolved. The assignment is improved by measurement of electronic Raman bands of the same frequencies. The splittings of the I→Os transitions are explained by mutual influences with trans-positioned ligands. The d - d transitions as well as the CT bands show bathochromic shifts with increasing number of I ligands.

Description / Table of Contents: Spectroscopic Investigations on Substituent Effects in SilylmethylsilanesThe silanes Me3-n(Me3SiCH2)nSiH (n = 1-3), (RMe2SiCH2)3SiH (R = n-Bu, n-Pr, Et, PhCH2, Ph) and Me3ElCH2SiMe2H (El = Ge, Sn) were prepared. The frequencies of the Si—H stretching vibration, the 29Si—1H coupling constants and the 29Si n.m.r. chemical shifts were measured. The ṽ(SiH) and J(29Si—1H) values in the silanes Me3-n(Me3SiCH2)nSiH depend on the number of trimethylsilymethyl groups. There is hardly an influence of the substituents R on these values in the silanes (RMe2SiCH2)3SiH. The frequencies of the Si—H stretching vibrations in the silanes Me3ElCH2SiMe2H (El = Si, Ge, Sn) show the order Si=Ge 〉 Sn. The 29Si n.m.r. chemical shifts of the Si(H) signals are approximately equal in the silanes Me3-n(Me3SiCH2)nSiH and (RMe2SiCH2)3SiH.

Notes: Znse:Ti crystals were grown by seeded chemical vapour transport (SCVT) in a hydrogen atmosphere. In situ doping with titanium was carried out from an additional TiSe source in the quartz ampoule at 1460 K. The Good homogeneity of the Ti distribution and the presence of only a few defects have been demonstrated by etch pit and X-ray topography studies. For the frist time, Ti3+ (3d1) centres in a II-VI semiconductor compund are detected. The concentration of localized centres of Ti2+ and Ti3+ in high-resistivity material determined by EPR is about 5 × 1016 cm-3. Fe3+, Ni2+ and traces of Mn2+ are additionally observed. Below 77K an anisotropic EPR spectrum of Ti3+ (d1) is recorded, indicating both a dynamic and a static Jahn-Teller effect of the 2E(D) ground state. At lower temperatures clear evidence of the static Jahn-Teller effect is observed. The frist emission and excitation spectra of Ti impurities in II-VI compounds are presented. An emission near 3400 cm-1 is assigned to the 3T2(F) → 3A2(F) transition of Ti2+ (d2). Its excitation structures coincide with the known absorption bands to 3T1(P) and 3T1(F). A further structured luminescence band at 4700 cm-1 is related to 2T2 → 2E(D) transition of Ti3+ (d1). Ti ions form a deep donor level Ti2+/Ti3+ situated approximately 14,100 cm-1 above the valence band. This photo-ionization threshold is derived from the excitation measurements in accordance with previous photoconductivity experiments.

Description / Table of Contents: The previously described preparation of intermetallic phases by reduction of the oxides of base metals by hydrogen in the presence of platinum was extended to all elements of the eighth group. The obtained phases were identified by x-ray investigations. The results show that coupled reductions with platinum are possible in the broadest extent, and that the reaction tendency clearly decreases from Pt to Ir und Os on the one hand, and from Pt to Pd and Ni on the other. In the investigated oxides of the base metals, a decrease of the reaction tendency with increasing values of ΔH can clearly be recognized.

Description / Table of Contents: Eigenschaften von Bariumchlorophosphat (Apatit)-Leuchtstoffen bei Aktivierung mit zweiwertigem EuropiumEine Reihe von europiumaktivierten Barium- bzw.
Notes: A series of powder materials of barium and calcium chlorophosphate activated by divalent europium have been prepared. These luminophors are isomorphous representatives of the hexagonal chlorapatites (Ba, Ca, Mg)10(PO4)6Cl2. In addition to x-ray diffractograms, excitation and emission spectra of luminescence have been studied at room and low temperatures (T ∽ 4 K). An increasing calcium content affects the luminescence properties of the solid solutions by changing the crystal field acting upon the Eu2+ ion. The appearance of a new low-temperature emission band with higher Ca2+ content indicates that the Eu2+ ions substitute on two different barium sites thus forming two types of luminescent centres. The luminescence arises from transitions between 4f65d and 4f7 configurations of Eu2+.

Description / Table of Contents: The crystalstructure of WO2Cl2 shows polytypisme. The observed onedimensional disorder can be explained with a polytypic twinning. The symmetry of the single cell of a twin is A 1a1.The positions of the W- and Cl-atoms were available from Patterson synthesis. The leastsqueares refinement with 383 observed reflections gave R = 0.084. The structure consists of twodimensional shares of W-atomes each bridged by O-atoms giving alternating W—O-distances.

Description / Table of Contents: The Structure of Solid Nitrogentrichloride (-125°C)NCl3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic centrosymmetric space group Pnma. The unit cell with the dimensions a = 7.48 ± 0.02, b = 9.35 ± 0,01 and c = 16.48 ± 0,02 Å contains 12 formula units NCl3. The crystal structure at about -125°C was solved by direct methods, using three-dimensional data collected on WEISSENBERG photographs. The structure was refined to a R index of 9.1%. Besides dipol-dipol-forces there are weak N≡Cl and Cl≡Cl interactions determining the crystal structure built up by NCl3-molecules. The average bond length N—Cl is 1.75 ± 0.01 Å, the average angle Cl—N—Cl is 106.8 ± 2°.
