    Description: Quality of tiger-toothed croaker stored in flake ice was studied for 19 days by sensory, chemical (total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N)), (thiobarbituric values (TBA)), pH and microbial (total viable count, TVC) methods. Sensory scheme was modified according to the panelists perception and a specific schema was created for this fish. Sensory analyses showed that: "gills color and odor", "convexity of eyes", "peritoneum" and "elasticity of flesh" are the best sensory parameters. Results of sensory and microbial analyses had high correlation. Total viable count of flesh was 2.86 log cfu g-1 at first day and reached the limiting level of TVC (106) after 15 days of storage (P〈0.05). TVB-N levels were 15.31mg/100 g tissue at the first day of storage and reached 36.52mg/100 g at the end of storage day (P〈0.05). Measuring amounts of TVB-N showed that total volatile basic nitrogen is a good quality index for tiger-toothed croaker during ice storage. The initial level of TBA was 0.83mg of malondialdehyde per kg flesh (mg MDA/kg) and increased to 3.75mg MDA/kg at the end of storage. TBA levels were less than limiting level (5mg MDA/kg) over the period of storage. According to the results, shelf-life of tiger-toothed croaker was determined 15 days during ice storage.

    Description: Actinomycetes are gram positive and filamentous bacteria and produce a major portion of bioactive compounds. The aim of this study was to isolate and identify antibiotic-producing actinomycetes from Persian Gulf marine sediments within Hormozgan province territory. Among 3 selected isolation media the M1 medium showed highest efficacy by isolation of 32 colonies. Heat treatment of 100 ºC for 60 min isolated 26 colonies and showed the best result. Approximately 60 Actinomycete isolates were obtained from 10 sediment samples. Evaluation of antimicrobial activity showed that 33, 20 and 30 % of isolates exhibited antimicrobial activity against S.aureus, E.coli and C.albicans respectively.Morphologic, physiologic and chemotaxonomic studies showed that selected potent isolates consist of Ifro12, Ifro 33 and Ifro 47 belonged to Streptomyces genus. Molecular genetic studies based on 16s rRNA gene analysis revealed that Ifro12, Ifro 33 and Ifro 47 exhibited 99 % similarity to S.olivaceus, S.cacaoi and S.variabilis respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Ifro12 and Ifro 47 derived from a common ancestor. The results of the present research indicated that these three isolates could be considered as promising candidates for antibiotic discovery researches.

    Description: Marine algal toxins have drawn worldwide attention because of their involvement in human intoxication and the socio-economic impacts. Marine biotoxins have been produced by harmful bloom algae, known as dinoflagellate. In the present study, two groups of toxins, i.e. PSP, ASP analyzed in the muscle of shellfish caught from the north parts of the Persian Gulf (Bandar Abbas, Bandar Lengeh, Boushehr) and Oman Sea (Chabahar). Sample preparation and extraction were done according to AOAC methods and by ELISA. PSP amounts in the shellfish samples ranged from ND-3.962 and ND-1.477 mg/g muscle. The results showed all samples were safe.
