Reductive C-Acylation of Aromatic AldehydesThe phosphonium salts 5 are synthesized from aldehydes 1, arenecarbonyl chlorides 2 and triphenylphosphane (4), and can then be deprotonated to 7. 7 react as acyl anion equivalents with aromatic aldehydes 9 forming enol esters 10, which are transformed to alkanones 11. The new aldehyde 9 → alkanone 11-transformation is characterised as a reductive C-acylation of aromatic aldehydes.
    Notes: Aus Aldehyden 1, Arencarbonsäurechloriden 2 und Triphenylphosphan 4 entstehen die Phosphoniumsalze 5, die zu 7 deprotoniert werden. 7 reagiert wie Acylanionäquivalente mit aromatischen Aldehyden 9 zunächst zu Enolestern 10, aus denen die Alkanone 11 hergestellt werden. Die neuartige Aldehyd 9 → Keton 11-Umwandlung wird als reduktive C-Acylierung der Aldehyde 9 charakterisiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Acylation Reactions of Carbonyl Compounds with 1-Acylpyridinium Salts1-Acyl-4-benzylpyridinium tetrafluoroborates 5 have been used to derive generally applicable guidelines for the reaction of aldehydes 6 and ketones 7 with 1-acylpyridinium salts (scheme 2): a) Non-enolizable aldehydes 6 react with 5 to give N-[1-(aryl- or alkylcarbonyloxy)alkyl]pyridinium salts 14. b) Enolizable aldehydes 6 can be transformed by means of 5 into pyridinium salts 14 and enol esters 12, respectively. Using aldehyde 6b as an example, it was possible to show that the reaction course (formation of 12 or 14) can be controlled by simple variation of the reaction conditions. c) In general, ketones will not react with 5. The range of applicability of this guidelines has been defined. - We suggest, that the reaction course is mainly determined by the formation of the carbenium ion 19 and the aldehyde-pyridine derivative addition product 8.
    Notes: Durch die Verwendung von 1-Acyl-4-benzylpyridinium-tetrafluoroboraten 5 werden allgemein-gültige Aussagen über die Reaktionsmöglichkeiten von Aldehyden 6 und Ketonen 7 mit 1-Acylpyridiniumsalzen gewonnen (Schema 2): a) Nicht-enolisierbare Aldehyde 6 reagieren mit 5 zu N-[1-(Aryl- bzw. Alkylcarbonyloxy)alkyl]pyridiniumsalzen 14, b) enolisierbare Aldehyde 6 können mittels 5 sowohl in die Pyridiniumsalze 14 als auch in Enolester 12 übergeführt werden, der Reaktionsverlauf ist - wie vor allem am Beispiel des Aldehyds 6b gezeigt wird - bezüglich der Reaktionsverlauf ist - wie vor allem am Beispiel des Aldehyds 6b gezeigt wird - bezüglich der Natur der Produkte (12 oder 14) durch einfache Variation der Reaktionsbedingungen lenkbar. c) Ketone reagieren i. a. nicht mit 5. Der Gültigkeitsbereich dieser Aussagen wird definiert. - Wir vermuten, daß der Reaktionsverlauf durch die Bildung des Carbenium-Ions 19 sowie eines aus Aldehyd und Pyridin-Derivat entstehenden Addukts 8 bestimmt wird.

    Notes: An overlay grid was constructed to facilitate the measurement of densiometric scans of proteins in pH gradients formed by electrofocusing. The overlay procedure provides a rapid way for data collection. The relationship between pH and gel distance closely fit a straight line, (R 〉0.99). The reliability of the system was shown by the close agreement of the linear regressions from six different sets of data. Also, the feasibility of using a similar grid for a nonlinear system was established.

    Notes: The melting, crystallization and dynamic mechanical behaviour of blends of bacterially produced poly[D(-)-3-hydroxybutyrate] (PHB) and poly[D(-)-3-hydroxyvalerate] (PHV) have been investigated. Results showed that melt-pressed PHB-PHV blends contained phase-separated domains in the melt which subsequently crystallized as PHB and PHV type spherulites respectively. The two melting regions detected by DTA related to separate melting of PHB and PHV crystallites, which were almost unaffected by the blend composition. The mechanical behaviour of a random copolymer of PHB/HV was compared with that of a blend of almost the same composition, and found to be markedly different.

    Description / Table of Contents: Reactions of D-Glucuronic Acid, X.  -  Elimination Reactions of D-Glucofuranurono-6,3-lactone and its DerivativesIn the presence of bases D-glucofuranurono-6,3-lactone, its glycosides, and their 2,5-di-O-alkyl derivatives, respectively, form doubly unsaturated products. This reaction is initiated by proton abstraction at C-5 causing β-elimination with opening of the tetrahydrofuran ring and liberation of the aldehyde function. In a subsequent second elimination (2E, 4Z)-2,5-dihydroxy-and (2E, 4Z)-2,5-dialkoxy-6-oxo-2,4-hexadienoic acid, respectively, are formed, of which the former spontaneously isomerizes to the thermodynamically more stable (2Z, 4Z)-conformer.
    Notes: D-Glucofuranurono-6,3-lacton, seine Glykoside und deren 2,5-Di-O-alkylderivate reagieren mit Basen unter Bildung doppelt ungesättigter Produkte. Diese Reaktion wird durch Protonabstraktion an C-5 eingeleitet, wobei der Tetrahydrofuranring durch β-Eliminierung geöffnet und die Aldehydgruppe in Freiheit gesetzt wird. In der daran anschließenden Aldoleliminierung bilden sich (2E, 4Z)-2,5-Dihydroxy-oder (2E, 4Z)-2,5-Dialkoxy-6-oxo-2,4-hexadiensäure, von denen die erstere spontan zum thermodynamisch stabileren (2Z, 4Z)-Konformeren isomeriiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Residual Stresses Due to Variable Service Loads and Their Importance Regarding the Applicability of the Linear Damage Accumulation Hypothesis.The linear damage accumulation hypothesis often provides unreliable life estimations. To improve its application, residual stresses at the notch root of open hole specimens (Kt = 2,5) of the aluminium alloys AlCuMg 2 (US equivalent 2024 T 3) and AlZnMgCuAg (US equivalent 7075 T 6) were continuously measured during the macro-crack-free life range. Based on the residual stress history a corrected hypothesis was applied.
    Notes: Die lineare Schadensakkumulations-Hypothese liefert häufig sehr ungenaue Schätzwerte der Lebensdauer. Um zu einer Klärung beizutragen, wurden an gelochten Stäben, Formzahl ak = 2,5, aus den Leichtmetallegierungen AlCuMg 2 und AlZnMgCuAg im Kerbgrund während des ersten von Makrorissen freien Lebensdauerabschnittes die Eigenspannungen gemessen und darauf aufbauend eine bezüglich der Eigenspannungen korrigierte Hypothese angewendet.
