Infrared Spectroscopic Studies on the Disorder in Normal and 10B-enriched B12P2 and B12As2Carrying on earlier infrared studies of the rhomboedric phases “B4C”, B12O2, and “B12P2” the latter compound has been prepared with 10B-enrichment and likewise normal and 10B-enriched “B12As2”. Their i.r. spectra have been measured in the 200-1500 cm-1 region. The obtained phases deviate by about 10° substitution of P or As atoms by B atoms from the ideal stoichiometry and structure. The assignment of 2 i.r. bands to this disorder has been confirmed by their 10B-shifts. A normal coordinate analysis has been performed, using an idealized atomic arrangement and a simple reasonable valence force field. The result was in satisfying agreement with the observed bands and their shift from B12P2 to B12As2 and after 10B-enrichment.
Notes:
