Notes:
A first order transition was observed in the temperature range of about 210°C by dilatometric studies on both isotactic and atactic polypropylene and for isotactic poly (butene-1) and poly (pentene-1). No such transition was observed for polyethylene. It was found that the transition is not due to the measurements per se, to polymer treatment, to catalyst residues, or to polymer degradation. It is suggested that the transition could be due to the disappearance of liquid crystals.
