Summary The influence of the program rate and initial temperature on the holdup time in linear temperature-programmed gas chromatography was studied. An equation describing the dependence of the holdup time on the program rate and the initial temperature is given. Experimental verification of the equation was carried out on three capillary columns coated with stationary phases having different polarities, at three program rates and four initial temperatures.
