Beschreibung: The toxicity of the herbicide glyphosate was tested on water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) samples cultivated in glass aquariums. The lowest dose (0.09 g.m-2) leads to an increasing plant growth rate. This growth rate decreases with intermediate doses (0.18 and 0.36 g.m-2), the consequence of which is to increase stolons (vegetative reproduction). On the other hand, the dose of 0.72 g.m-2 leads to a total and irreversible destruction of plants.

Beschreibung: The waste water treatment of Dabou (Côte d'Ivoire), made of three oxydation ponds (B1, B2 and B3), is designed to ensure a biological treatment of domestic sewage and a valorization of the final effluent in aquaculture. In order to understand the ecological mechanisms and the performance of this system, a pluridisciplinary program was achieved in February 1989.

Beschreibung: The annual cycle of Vibrio cholerae in the environment surrounding the Layo aquaculture facility (Ebrié lagoon) was studied from March 1991 to April 1992. Vibrio cholerae counts were coupled with the determination of physical and chemical characteristics of water and the estimation of biological richness of this environment.

Beschreibung: Several 'analyses factorielles des correspondences' were used with the numerical data of planktonic copepods issued from a 1 year sampling programme at different stations of the Ivorian shelf. The main results were the following: (1) 'Ecological seasons' approximately corresponding to hydrological seasons may be defined for planktonic populations. (2) Each 'season' is characterized by one group of species, whose maximum abundance occurs in this period. (3) The same definition of ecological season is obtained whether all species present are used or whether only the most important ones are used. (4) The first principal axes may be interpreted as temperature and salinity or as the station's distance from shore.

Beschreibung: The minimum spanning tree algorithm is used to classify two sets of planktonic copepod samples. This algorithm links the samples the distance of which is minimum, without doing a loop, so that the sum of the segment lengths is minimum. The authors estimated the distance between samples by 2 different ways: by a coefficient of association the Jaccard's index - and by the x2 distance. Jaccard's index is not retained but the use of the x2 distance allows comparison with the 'analyse factorielle des correspondances'. The results are discussed from an ecological point of view.

Beschreibung: In order to control the proliferation of floating aquatic vegetation in Côte d'Ivoire, a coastal inlet, allowing a direct communication between the Comoe river and the ocean, was created in September 1987. The impact of this operation on the hydrochemistry (salinity, nutrients, algal biomass) and the bacterial contamination level was studied in the area close to the Vridi canal.

Beschreibung: Remote mapping were realised from December 1986 to September 1989 to describe the seasonal evolution of macrophytes colonizing the surface waters of the eastern sector of the Ebrié lagoon. The vegetal cover of this sector and associated lagoons is essentially composed of Eichhornia crassipes (water hyacinth). Its expansion is favored by the decrease in the salinity of the lagoon waters which is due to rain falls. Its migration through the lagoon environment is ensured by the overflow of the Comoé river. The opening of the Bassam inlet induced its temporary disappearence from the newly created estuarian zone.
