Description: El objetivo del presente estudio es conocer la distribución cualitativa y cuantitativa de las especies del fitoplancton, zooplancton e ictioplancton y su relación con las condiciones ambientales durante el período en estudio.
Description: The present work includes/understands the study of the qualitative and quantitative temporary variability of the phytoplankton, zooplankton and ichthyoplankton in the shores of the Santay Island, of the Province of the Guayas. For the effect 16 samples, obtained during november of the 2000 and january of the 2002 were analyzed. 38 species of phytoplankton in water samples and 51 species in network samples were identified (50u). The diatoms were dominant and in smaller concentration the dinoflagellates ones, cianobacterys, silicoflagellates, and tintinides. The cellular biomass was represented mainly by Skeletonema costatum, Paralia sulcata and Coscinodiscus excentricus, species that were abundant in the study area. In network samples species were observed estuarys and benthicas: Actinoptychus senarius, Coscinodiscus excentricus, C. concinnus, Polymixus coronalis, Cyclotella menenghiniana, characteristic of a high fertility. During year 2000 a smaller zooplanctónica biomass with a variability in the abundance of the main groups of zooplancton appeared, standing out the dominant group the Larvae of Fish and represented by the sort Anchovy sp. and its temporary abundance is influenced mainly by the seasonal time, physical factors and states of tides. Wheres during year 2002 a greater zooplanctónica biomass was observed and greater diversity of species, this biomass was represented mainly by microcrustaceans such as Nauplios of cirripedios, Copépodos, Zoeas of brachiuras, Copépodos, Larvae of fish and Larvae of poliquetos, in comparison with year 2000. The abundance of a fraction of some groups of zooplankton pertaining to meroplancton is an index that mainly characterizes productive areas by the presence of larval estadíos of crustaceans and fish.

Description: El propósito del trabajo es determinar la composición, abundancia de los grupos dominantes del fitoplancton y zooplancton, establecer las especies de Quetognatos y su relación con la temperatura superficial del mar durante marzo de 2005 correspondiente a la época húmeda.
Description: During the study one collected superficial water samples in 12 stations distributed in the Aeolian Bay of the Baltra, Galapagos Islands to determine the primary productivity and secundary on the chain it would feed, the samples of plankton were collected during days 9 to the 13 of march of 2005. In relation to the biomass cellular one identified 24 species in the superface waterproof cloak and 84 species were determined in the samples of network of 50u. In the phytoplankton community, the diatoms prevailed dominant and in smaller concentration the dinoflagelados groups, silicoflagellates, cocolithoforids. In counts cells the dominant species in the area in study were Gymnodinium sp., Filamentos sp., Coscinodiscus excentricus, Thalassiotrix frauenfeldii. In the netwoork samples (50u), the typical water species were registered with high productivity characteristics; Corethron criophyllum, Chaetoceros peruvianus. As far as the zooplanktony productivity a greater biomass collected with the network of 335u in comparison with the network of 600u was determined, and it stands out that the hight biomass of zooplankton was in station 4. Additionally a proportional relation inversely between the abundances of Eggs of fish and taxa of Quetognatos was observed. As far as the species of Quetognatos the presence in abundance order was observed Sagitta neglecta, S. bedoti, S. pacifica, these species are typically of wet season.

Description: This research is part of an environmental monitoring of plankton and its physical and chemical response around the platform located offshore Campo Amistad, near Santa Clara Island, southeast of the Gulf in external Guayaquil. The study was carried out between july 30 and august 31-2001, onboard the R/V Orión of te Oceanographic Institute of the Ecuadorian Navy. The chlorophyll "a" biomass presented values between 0.6 and 1.52 mg/m³ in surface waters, with averages of 1.07 to 0.99 mg/m³ (10 m), 0.79 (20 m) and 0.58 (30 m) mg/m³. The larger amounts of biomass and daily variability were found in the northern part of the platform, while the opposite trend was observed in its western area. One hundred and three phytoplankton species were identified, with dominance of centric diatoms of mainly Skeletonema costatum and Chaetoceros curvisetus. Dinoflagellates presented high diversity and low biomass; Ceratium dens was the dominant species, characterizing influences of external water masses in the estuary. The zooplankton fauna was represented by 28 groups, with dominance of cladocera and copepods; the highest density of organisms was found the 17h00 hours. High density of cladocera presented a strong positive relationship to phytoplankton abundance, and a negative correlation to copepod abundance. The environmental conditions in the surface thermal structure were almost stable, with an average of 22.5°C. The lowest temperatures were found southwest of the platform (subsurface), coincident with a slight increase in nutrients (nitrate and silicate). The marine biota associated with these environmental conditions presented high diversity, implying the absence of eutrophication incidence in the estuary area of the platform.
