    Notes: Summary Two experiments were carried out with two nodulating and non-nodulating soybean isolines, with three different levels of N as (15NH4)2SO4 at the equivalent of 0, 25 and 50 kg N/ha. In the first experiment three seeds were sown in each pot and the plants harvested at 35, 55 and 75 days. In the second experiment only one seed was sown per pot and harvested at 75 days. Isotope dilution technique and in certain cases natural isotope variation (δ15N) was used to determine directly the origin of nitrogen in the plant, whether from soil, fertilizer or biological N2-fixation. The use of nodulating and non-nodulating isolines enabled comparison with the classical method of estimating N2-fixation by difference from total plant N. Results at the 75 day harvest were similar for either method, but at the earlier harvests, particularly at 35 days, the total-N method was inadequate. The isotope method appeared more sensitive while the total-N method suffered from greater variability with correspondingly high standard errors and significant differences. It was found that by the 35 and 55 day harvests hardly any N2-fixation had taken place, plant nitrogen being almost entirely derived from soil or fertilizer N. Plants in competition used up soil fertilizer N more rapidly, thus stimulating symbiotic nitrogen fixation. When only one plant was grown in each pot it had a greater proportion of N derived from soil or fertilizer, and less N derived from fixation. In general the15N data showed that only about 25% of the applied fertilizer N was absorbed by the plant. The nodulating isoline absorbed more N than the non-nodulating plants. This suggests a possible synergistic effect of N2-fixation on N derived from other sources, giving an increase in total-N content of nudulated plants. The N derived from N2-fixation was scarcely detectable in the roots but appeared to be translocated almost entirely to shoots and pods. With 25 kg N/ha the greater proportion of the nitrogen in the pods was derived from N2-fixation. Even with 50 kg N/ha the nitrogen in the pods derived from fixation remained high, that being derived from fertilizer being less than 15%. About 80% of the nitrogen in the nodules was due to fixation. In the present experiment the application of 25 kg N/ha appeared sufficient to give maximum N absorption by both isolines. At this level symbiotic fixation by Rhizobium remained high in nodulating plants, while the proportion of total N due to fixation was reduced with 50 kg N/ha.

    Description: Among more than 600 fish species in Persian Gulf, Soles are considered as one of the most economically important species. These fish is different from other fishes in morphological, functional and structural organs and like many other flatfish are less well known. The present study was designed to investigate the histological structure of gonads of Sole (Euryglossa orientalis) in two breeding and rest seasons. 40 Sole fish were collected from Zangi estuary (located in Mussa creek in the north of Persian Gulf) in early July and early October (non- breeding and breeding seasons) 2013. After biometry, gonadal tissues were dissected and weighed to determine Gonadosomatic Index (GSI). Then fixed in Bouin’s solution. Histological specimens were transported to the histological laboratory. Tissue sections were prepared according to conventional methods include dehydration, clearing and paraffin. And then were cut down to 5 micron sections and stained. These tissue sections were studied by light microscopy. The result showed that different stages of germ cells in both male and female gonads. Although in breeding season mature cells were noticed, GSI index of testis and ovary in Sole showed significant difference between the two seasons.

    Description: This study was done to investigate the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the ovary of Acanthopagrus latus and their changes during sexual maturation cycle from October 2011 to may 2011. 80 A. latus from Mussa Greek (North West of Persian Gulf) were captured and transferred to the laboratory. After biometry, gonads were removed, were weighted and fixed in Bouin's Fluid. Samples were dehydrated, clarified, embedded and sections were prepared. After staining with H&E these slides were studied under light microscopy. Gonadosomatic indices, macroscopic and microscopic changes in the ovary during different months were recorded. The minimum value of GSI were measured in May, (0.31 ± 0.01) while its maximum was seen in March (9.9 ± 3.1). Cyclic changes in ovarian maturity were divided into six stages, including immature, premature, mature, ripe, spawning and resting. A. latus had asynchronous spawning that was occurred from February up to March.

    Description: Water and electrolyte balance is vital for aquatic organisms in both hyper and hypo osmotic environments. Kidneys as excretory organs play an important role in osmoregulation and body fluid homeostasis. In this study a total number of 180 Sobayti (Teleost: Sparidentex hasta) were exposed to different salinities to assess changes in the kidney structure and alterations in plasma levels of electrolytes, glucose and cortisol. Salinity challenges were examined for a period of 14 days in four experimental groups: 40ppt as control and 5, 20 and 60 ppt as other experimental treatments. 24 hours after salinity challenge, significant changes were observed in the lumen diameter of the primary proximal tubule at the sections from trunk kidney in both 5 and 20 ppt conditions (P〈0.05). Lumen diameter of the second part of the proximal tubule did not differ in any of the experimental salinities (P〉0.05).However, lumen diameter of the distal tubule of nephron in the trunk kidney, increased significantly in 60 ppt treatment 48 hours from starting the experiment (P〈0.05). The thickness of the epithelium tubule in both trunk and tail parts showed no significant differences during the adaptations (P〉0.05). According to the results, histomorphological changes in the different parts of the kidney returned to the basic structure with in 24 to 48hours after exposure to different salinities.

    Description: The effects of chitosan (2%) coating combined with green tea extract (GTE) (1%) on the quality of tiger-tooth croaker (Otolithes ruber) fillets including chemical, microbiological, texture, color and sensory properties during 16 days of refrigerated storage was investigated. The color changes were significantly retared, and the texture parameteres and sensory scores were significantly improved in tiger- tooth croaker coated by chitosan, GTE and chitosan combined with GTE, compared with the control. The coincidental lowered rate of increase total volatile base (TVB) content, thiobarbitoric acid (TBA), peroxide value (POV) and free fatty acids (FFA) were obtained in tiger-tooth croaker coated chitosan+GTE. Chitosan in combination with GTE had higher inhibition on microbial growth and yielded the tigertooth croaker with higher likeness, compared with the other treatments. Therefore, fish coated with chitosan+GTE had the lowest losses in quality during refrigerated storage.
