Description:
Mutations in two nonessential genes specifically block the phagocytosis of cells programmed to die during development. With few exceptions, these cells still die, suggesting that, in nematodes, engulfment is not necessary for most programmed deaths. Instead, these deaths appear to occur by cell suicide.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Hedgecock, E M -- Sulston, J E -- Thomson, J N -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1983 Jun 17;220(4603):1277-9.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6857247" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
