The tungsten coordination geometry can best be considered as a distorted octahedron, with the but-2-yne ligand occupying one coordination site, which has a trans-Br(2) group. The equatorial plane is made up of trans-PPh2Cy groups, with the bromo and carbonyl ligands occupying the other two sites.

    Notes: Abstract The complex [WI(CO)(cis-dppen)(η2-MeC2Me)2]I·CH2Cl2(1) is prepared as a by-product from the reaction of equimolar quantities of [WI2(CO)(NCMe)(η2-MeC2Me)2] and cisdppen {dppen = bis(diphenylphosphino)ethene}. Complex 1, [WI(CO)(cis-dppen)(η2-MeC2Me)2]I·CH2Cl2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group $${\text{P}}\bar 1$$ with a = 11.189(13), b = 12.331(14), c = 15.395(17) Å, α = 83.61(1), β = 86.06(1), γ = 64.48(1)°, U = 1904 Å3, and Z = 2. The metal environment in the cation can best be considered as a distorted octahedron with the two but-2-yne groups taking up individual sites trans to phosphorus atoms of the dppen ligand. The coordination sphere is completed by mutually trans-carbonyl and iodide groups.

    Notes: Bis(dicyclohexylammonium) bis(2,6-pyridinedicarboxylato)dibutylstannate is assigned seven-fold coordination at tin on the basis of its 119Sn CP/MAS NMR chemical shift (δ=-424.9 ppm). The assignment has been corroborated by a crystal structure determination of its monohydrate, whose tin atom has the trans-C2SnNO4 pentagonal bipyramidal [Sn-C=2.040(9), 2.067(8) Å; C-Sn-C =168.9(5)°] geometry. One 2,6-pyridine- dicarboxylato group chelates to the tin atom (Sn-O=2.234(4), 2.260(4); Sn-N =2.279(5) Å) whereas the other binds through only one carboxyl -CO2 end (Sn-O=2.416(5), 2.441(5) Å). Hydrogen bonds link the cation and the stannate into a linear chain parallel to the b-axis. The lattice water molecule is hydrogen-bonded to the free carboxyl end. The anhydrous compound showed higher in vitro antitumor activity than those of carboplatin and cisplatin when screened against breast (MCF-7, EVSAT), colonic (WiDr), ovarian (IGROV) and renal (A498) carcinoma, and melanoma (M19 MEL) cell lines. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

    Description: In this paper two frequency domain techniques are applied to air traffic analysis. The Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT), like the Fourier Transform, is shown to identify changes in historical traffic patterns caused by Traffic Management Initiatives (TMIs) and weather with the added benefit of detecting when in time those changes take place. Next, with the expectation that it could detect anomalies in the network and indicate the extent to which they affect traffic flows, the Spectral Graph Wavelet Transform (SGWT) is applied to a center based graph model of air traffic. When applied to simulations based on historical flight plans, it identified the traffic flows between centers that have the greatest impact on either neighboring flows, or flows between centers many centers away. Like the CWT, however, it can be difficult to interpret SGWT results and relate them to simulations where major TMIs are implemented, and more research may be warranted in this area. These frequency analysis techniques can detect off-nominal air traffic behavior, but due to the nature of air traffic time series data, so far they prove difficult to apply in a way that provides significant insight or specific identification of traffic patterns.

    Description: Air traffic controller supervisors configure available sector, operating position, and work-station resources to safely and efficiently control air traffic in a region of airspace. In this paper, an algorithm for assisting supervisors with this task is described and demonstrated on two sample problem instances. The algorithm produces configuration schedule advisories that minimize a cost. The cost is a weighted sum of two competing costs: one penalizing mismatches between configurations and predicted air traffic demand and another penalizing the effort associated with changing configurations. The problem considered by the algorithm is a shortest path problem that is solved with a dynamic programming value iteration algorithm. The cost function contains numerous parameters. Default values for most of these are suggested based on descriptions of air traffic control procedures and subject-matter expert feedback. The parameter determining the relative importance of the two competing costs is tuned by comparing historical configurations with corresponding algorithm advisories. Two sample problem instances for which appropriate configuration advisories are obvious were designed to illustrate characteristics of the algorithm. Results demonstrate how the algorithm suggests advisories that appropriately utilize changes in airspace configurations and changes in the number of operating positions allocated to each open sector. The results also demonstrate how the advisories suggest appropriate times for configuration changes.

    Description: NASA is developing the Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management research platform to safely integrate small unmanned aircraft operations in large-scale at low-altitudes. As a part of this effort, small unmanned aircraft system off-nominal operational situations data collection process has been developed to take lessons learned and to reinforce operational compliance. In this paper, descriptions of variables used for digital data collection and an online report form for collection of observational data from the operators (contextual data) are provided. They are used to collect off-nominal data from the Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management National Campaign in 2017. The digital data show that 2 out of 118 campaign operations (1.7%) encountered loss of navigation. Since the campaign aircraft used Global Positioning System for navigation, it is likely that unobstructed view of the sky at the campaign locations contributed to this small number. Also, 4 out of 47 operations (8.5%) encountered loss of communications. A relatively short distance between ground control system and aircraft, ranging from 2300 feet to 4200 feet, likely contributed to this small number. There was no data to identify the loss of communications condition, aircraft received signal strength, for the remaining 71 operations suggesting that some operators may not be monitoring unmanned aircraft communications system performance or monitoring it with different parameters. For the contextual data, due to the low number of total reports during the campaign, no significant trends emerged. This is an initial attempt to collect contextual data from small unmanned aircraft operators about off-nominal situations, and changes will be made to the future data collection to improve the amount and quality of the information.

    Description: A method of analyzing National Air Space (NAS) air traffic that uses the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is presented. The DFT is used to transform time domain traffic count data into the frequency domain where the sources of traffic in air spaces can be identified and characterized more easily. It is shown in simulation that individual traffic flows within Air Route Traffic Control Centers can be distinguished by their periodicity in the DFT plot. Next, three Traffic Management Initiatives (playbook rerouting, metered flows, and Ground Delay Programs) are implemented in simulations and their signature effects on the traffic are identified using the DFT. Finally, historical flight data is studied and the DFT is applied to sector traffic count data. It is found that in many cases, variations in traffic due to rerouting and convective weather disturbances are better highlighted in the frequency domain than in the original time domain data. Initial results of the DFT show it has potential as a tool for measuring and/or predicting NAS behavior for daily tactical planning and control purposes.
