    Description: Speckle interferometry is a high angular resolution technique that allows study of resolved asteroids. By following the changing size, shape, and orientation of minor planets, and with a few general assumptions (e.g., geometric scattering, triaxial ellipsoid figures, no albedo features), it is possible to directly measure an asteroid's true dimensions and the direction of its spin axis in one or two nights. A particular subset of triaxial ellipsoid figures are equilibrium shapes, and would imply that some asteroids are thoroughly fractured. Such shapes if they exist among the asteroids would allow a determination of bulk density since there is a unique relation among spin period, size, shape, and density. The discovery of even a single rubble pile, (just as the finding of even one binary asteroid by speckle interferometric techniques) would drastically alter the notion of asteroids as small solid planets. The Pluto/Charon system was studied to aid in improving the orbital elements necessary to predict the eclipse/occultation season currently in progress. Four asteroids were reduced to their size, shape, and pole direction: 433 Eros, 532 Herculina, 511 Davida, and 2 Pallas.

    Description: Twenty-six lightcurves of Psyche are presented together with UBV photometry and phase functions from 1975 and 1976. Combining photometric data from this opposition with those from previous apparitions resulted in a mean phase coefficient in V of 0.026 + or - 0.002 mag/deg. No significant phase-dependent variation in the U-B color could be determined from the data; the B-V color, however, displayed a reddening with phase of 0.0010 + or - 0.0004 mag/deg. It is concluded that compositional variations over Psyche's surface are minor, and that Psyche's opposition effect is typical of that for other well-observed asteroids. Psyche's behavior is accounted for if, to the first order, its shape is that of a triaxial ellipsoid with axial ratios near 5:4:3.

    Description: Lightcurves and UBV photometry of Ceres from the 1975-1976 apparition are presented. The synodic period is 0.37812 + or 0.00004 day, the mean absolute V magnitude is 3.61 + or 0.03, and the phase coefficient is 0.040 + or - 0.001 mag/deg. The U-B and B-V phase coefficients are +0.0015 + or - 0.0007 and +0.0006 + or - 0.0003 mag/deg, respectively. The colors at zero phase are B-V = +0.70 + or - 0.01 and U-B = +0.41 + or 0.01.

    Description: Speckle interferometry of 532 Herculina performed on January 17 and 18, 1982, yields triaxial ellipsoid dimensions of (263 + or - 14) x (218 + or - 12) x (215 + or - 12) km, and a north pole for the asteroid within 7 deg of RA = 7h47min and DEC = -39 deg (ecliptic coordinates lambda = 132 deg beta = -59 deg). In addition, a 'spot' some 75 percent brighter than the rest of the asteroid is inferred from both speckle observations and Herculina's lightcurve history. This bright complex, centered at asterocentric latitude -35 deg, longitude 145-165 deg, extends over a diameter of 55 deg (115 km) of the asteroid's surface. No evidence for a satellite is found from the speckle observations, which leads to an upper limit of 50 km for the diameter of any satellite with an albedo the same as or higher than Herculina.

    Description: Analytical expressions are derived for the semimajor and semiminor axes and orientation angle of the ellipse projected by a triaxial asteroid, and the results are applied speckle-interferometry observations of the 433 Eros asteroid. The expressions were calculated as functions of the dimensions and pole of the body and of the asterocentric position of the earth and the sun. On the basis of the analytical expressions, the dimensions of 433 Eros are obtained. The light curve from December 18, 1981 is compared to the dimensions to obtain a geometric albedo of 0.156 (+ or - 0.010). A series of two-dimensional power spectra and autocorrelation functions for 433 Eros show that it is spinning in space.

    Description: Reconstructed images of the asteroid 4 Vesta reveal dark and bright patterns which can be followed across the disk as the asteroid rotates. Reasonable agreement is found with its visible light curve by assigning relative albedo 0 to the three darkest features, and relative albedo 2 to the three brightest features. From power-spectrum analysis of sets of images at two different epochs, Vesta's triaxial principal diameters, the orientation of its pole, and its rotational rate and sense are obtained. The images confirm the dominant role of surface structure, particularly the dark spots, in determining Vesta's light-curve signature.

    Description: In this final of three papers from the NASA-NMSU Meteor Observatory, trajectory and orbital elements are reported for 13 doubly-photographed meteors, four of which are Geminids and one an Orionid. A pair of meteors with rather similar orbits suggests the possibility of a new stream active in the range of solar longitude 200 deg to 204 deg (13-18 October) with a radiant near delta Aurigae.
