Description: The investigations carried out by the Voyager Neptune/Interstellar Mission are discussed. Attention is given to the location of the various science instruments and the spacecraft subsystems on the Voyager spacecraft and to the charactgeristics of eleven instruments used in the Voyager mission. The Voyager 1 and 2 trajectories from the launch through the Voyager-2 Neptune encounter are presented together with data for the Neptune encounter events.

Description: Among the NASA mission concepts that have been suggested for the 21st century is an Interstellar Probe that might be accelerated to a velocity of about 10 to 20 AU/yr, allowing it to leave the heliosphere, ultimately reaching a radial distance of about 500 to 1000 AU in about 50 years. Previous studies of such a mission, and its potential significance for cosmic ray studies, both within the heliosphere, and beyond, in interstellar space are discussed.

Description: The Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) was recently selected as one of two new Explorer-class missions to be developed for launch during the mid-1990s. ACE will observe particles of solar, interplanetary, interstellar, and Galactic origins, spanning the energy range from that of the solar wind to Galactic cosmic ray energies. Definitive studies will be made of the abundance of nearly all isotopes from H to Zn, with exploratory isotope studies extending to Zr. The scientific objectives, instrumentation, spacecraft, and mission approach that were defined for ACE during the Phase-A study period are summarized.

Description: The astrophysical aspects of cosmic radiation and the radiation and electromagnetic field environment of the Earth and other planets are investigated. Energetic particle and photon detector systems flown on spacecraft and balloons are used. Galactic, solar, interplanetary, and planetary energetic particles and plasmas are also studied with emphasis on precision measurements with high resolution in charge, mass, and energy.
