    Description / Table of Contents: Characterization of Electrode Materials Based on V2O5 by X-Ray and Photoelectron SpectroscopyThe investigation of various LixV2O5 compounds and V2O5 itself by X-ray and photoelectron spectroscopy resulted in new knowledge about the change of the structure of V2O5 during discharge in positive electrodes of secondary lithium batteries. The structures of the compounds produced by electrochemical reduction of V2O5 in aprotic lithium salt solutions are similar to these received on a chemical way. In the case of overdischarging of LixV2O5 (x 〉 1) the V2p3/2 binding energy is decreased, the change of the lattice becomes irreversible, and the material is after that only uncompletely rechargeable.
    Notes: Durch röntgen- und photoelektronenspektroskopische Untersuchungen an verschiedenen LixV2O5-Verbindungen und an V2O5 wurden weitere Erkenntnisse zur Strukturumwandlung des V2O5 während seiner Entladung in positiven Elektroden von sekundären Lithiumzellen erhalten. Es treten während der elektrochemischen Reduktion des V2O5 in aprotischen Lithiumsalzlösungen ähnliche Strukturen auf wie bei chemisch hergestellten Verbindungen. Im Falle einer Überentladung (x 〉 1) nimmt die V2p3/2-Bindungsenergie ab, die Gitteränderung wird irreversibel und das Material ist danach nur unvollständig wiederaufladbar.

    Description / Table of Contents: Contributions to the Investigation of Inorganic Non-stoichiometric Compounds. XXXIV. Disordered Structures Consisting of Large Blocks in the System Nb2O5/WO3. An Electronmicroscopical InvestigationThe real structures of samples which have been prepared by quenching procedures using the composition Nb2O5: WO3 = 10:11 are in most cases heavily disordered; some areas show extremly large blocks. The electron microscopic investigation revealed that the blocks consist of [n × m] M—O octahedra and have edge lengths of n = 5 to 14 and of m = 5 to 13 and in one case we even found [n × m] = [5 × 32]. In comparison, samples that were heated below the melting point for a longer time, showed a less disordered structure. Block sizes of [5 × 6] to [5 × 9] in a matrix of [5 × 5] blocks could be observed.
    Notes: Die Realstrukturen der durch Abschreckexperimente (mit der Ausgangszusammensetzung Nb2O5: WO3 = 10:11) erhaltenen Präparate sind meist stark gestört; in Teilbereichen liegen ungewöhnlich große Blöcke vor. Wie die elektronenmikroskopische Untersuchung zeigt, besitzen die aus [n x m] M—O-Oktaedern (M = Nb, W) bestehenden Blöcke Kantenlängen n = 5 bis 14 und m = 5 bis 13, im Einzelfall sogar bis [n × m] = [5 × 32]. Vergleichspräparate, die längere Zeit unterhalb des Schmelzpunktes getempert worden waren, zeigten eine weniger gestörte Anordnung, wobei Blockgrößen von [5 × 6] bis [5 × 9] in einer Matrix von [5 × 5]-Blöcken beobachtet wurden.

    Description / Table of Contents: Contributions to the investigation of inorganic non-stoichiometric compounds. XXXV. Reduction of block structures by heating with the electron beam -- in situ investigation of a topotactic reaction in the system Nb2O5/WO3In quenched samples with the starting composition Nb2O5: WO3 ≈ 1:1 we observed by using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) areas with large blocks of [5 × n] M-O octahedra (n = 6, 7, 8, 9; M = Nb, W). Upon heating with the electron beam a structural change occurs as an in-situ reaction. The original [5 × n] blocks are splitting up mostly in two [5 × 1/2n] blocks (n even) or when n is odd into one block with [5 × 1/2(n + 1)] and one with [5 × 1/2(n--1)] M-O octahedra. The splitting up of blocks forces some corner sharing octahedra to become edge sharing octahedra. This change of connections constitutes a partial reduction of the sample.
    Notes: Mit der hochauflösenden Durchstrahlungselektronemikroskopie wurden in abgeschreckten Proben (Ausgangszusammensetzung Nb2O5/WO3 ≈ 1:1) Bereiche mit großen Blöcken aus [5 × n] M—O-Oktaedern (n = 6, 7, 8, 9; M = Nb, W) beobachtet. Bei hohen Strahlintensitäten erfolgte eine in situ-Reaktion mit einer strukturellen Veränderung. Die ursprünglichen [5 × n]-Blöcke spalten meistens in je zwei [5 × 1/2n]-Blöcke auf (n gerade); oder es entsteht (n ungerade) je ein Block mit [5 × 1/2(n + 1)] und [5 × 1/2(n-1)] M—O-Oktaedern.Die Aufspaltung, bei der Eckenverknüpfungen der M-O-Oktaeder in Kantenverknüpfungen übergehen, entspricht einer partiellen Reduktion.

Preparation and Properties of Lithium Alkylo Titanates(IV)Tetramethyl titanium and other titanium compounds react with organolithium compounds forming complexes which can be isolated in form of crystalline, coloured adducts in presence of mono or bidentate oxygen or nitrogen containing ligands.On account of the experimental results these compounds may be considered as ionic alkylo titanates(IV).
    Notes: Titantetramethyl und andere Titantetraorganyle reagieren mit lithiumorganischen Verbindungen und mit Lithiumchlorid zu Komplexen, die in Gegenwart geeigneter ein- und zweizähniger sauerstoff- oder stickstoffhaltiger Liganden in Form kristalliner, farbiger Addukte isoliert werden können.Auf Grund der experimentellen Ergebnisse wird auf das Vorliegen ionisch gebauter Alkylotitanate(IV) geschlossen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Tetramethyltitanium forms with pyridine, trimethylamine and trimethylphosphine yellow or red 1:1 and 1:2 donor-acceptor complexes. All these compounds are very sensitive to heat treatment but more stable than pure tetramethyltitanium. The nature of the bonding between tetramethyltitanium and the ligand molecules is discussed.
    Notes: Titantetramethyl bildet mit Pyridin, Trimethylamin und Trimethylphosphin gelbe 1:1- bzw. rote 1:2-Donator-Acceptor-Komplexe. Alle Addukte sind thermisch sehr empfindlich, jedoch wesentlich beständiger als reines Titantetramethyl. Die Bindungsverhältnisse zwischen dem Titantetramethyl und den jeweiligen Donatormolekeln werden diskutiert.

The preparation and the most important properties of these red or yellow, thermally rather stable compounds are described.
    Notes: Titantetramethyl bildet mit 2,2′-Dipyridyl, 1. 10-Phenanthrolin, N,N,N′,N′-Tetramethyläthylendiamin, P,P,P′,P′-Tetramethyläthylendiphosphin und 1,4-Dioxan definierte 1:1-Addukte. Die Darstellung und wesentliche Eigenschaften dieser roten bzw. gelben, in thermischer Hinsicht relativ stabilen Komplexe werden im folgenden beschrieben.

On the Reactivity of Tricyclopentadienyl-trinitrosyl-dimanganeseCp3Mn2(NO)3 (Cp = C5H5) reacts with LiAlH4/AlCl3 in tetrahydrofuran (THF) with formation of known Cp3Mn3(NO)4. The reaction of Cp3Mn2(NO)3 with LiC6 in THF yields Cp2(C6H5)Mn2(NO)3 in form of two geometric isomers. The i.r., 1H n.m.r., and mass spectra of the nitrosyl complexes are discussed.
    Notes: Cp3Mn2(NO)3 (Cp = C5H5) reagiert mit LiAlH4/AlCl3 in Tetrahydrofuran (THF) unter Bildung von bekanntem Cp3Mn3(NO)4. Die Umsetzung von Cp3Mn2(NO)3 mit LiC6H5 in THF liefert Cp2C6H5Mn2(NO)3 in Gestalt zweier geometrischer Isomerer. Die IR-, 1H-NMR- und Massenspektren der Nitrosylkomplexe werden diskutiert.
