Description: The ice nucelating ability of samples from two Arctic ice cores was measured. The Lomo09 ice core originates from Lomonosovfonna (Svalbard;78°49'24"N, 17°25'59"E) and the EUROCORE ice core from Summit (Greenland; 72.58°N, 37.64°W). Lomo09 samples come from the time period between 1479 to 1950, EUROCORE samples from the time period between 1734 and 1989. The measurements were performed with the Leipzig Ice Nucleation Array (LINA) and the Ice Nucleation Droplet Array (INDA). LINA and INDA are both droplet freezing arrays, whose primary difference lies in number and volume of the droplets (LINA: 90 droplets with a volume of 1 µL; INDA: 96 droplets with a volume of 50 µL). Both devices yield the fraction of frozen droplets (f_ice) as function of temperature as the measured quantity. Based on Vali (1971), f_ice can be further translated into number concentrations of ice nucleating particles (INP). For information regarding depth and age of individual samples see the tables in "further details".
