Notizen: A new synthetic route for the synthesis of 5,5′-diamino-2,2-bipyridine (5) based on the coupling of 2-chloro-5-aminopyridine in the presence of NiCl2 × 6 H2O/PPh3/Zn in dimethylformamide is described. The reactions of the potentially ambidentate ligand 5 with salts of the transition metals Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ag, and Cd gave a variety of 13 metal-ligand complexes depending on the anion, the crystallization conditions and the metal-to-ligand ratio. The complexes obtained were characterized by thermal analyses, NMR including 113Cd-NMR, IR, and for the iron complex 57Fe-Mößbauer spectroscopy. The structure of eight of the compounds was elucidated by X-ray crystallography. All of these metal complexes show a bipyridine-metal coordination. The amino functionality was never involved in metal coordination. The intermolecular arrangement is dictated by hydrogen bonding from the amino functionality and by π-π stacking of the bipyridine rings.Supporting information for this article is available on the WWW under http://www.wiley-vch.de/contents/jc_2005/1999/99078_s.pdf or from the author.

Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Polyol Metal Complexes. XIII. Na2[Be(C4H6O3)2] · 5H2O and Na2[Pb(C4H6O3)2] · 3H2O - Two Homoleptic Bis Polyolato Metallates with Beryllium and with LeadNa2[Be(C4H6O3)2] · 5H2O (1) and Na2[Pb(C4H6O3)2] · 3H2O (2) crystallize from concentrated, alkaline aqueous solutions. The polyol anhydroerythritol is deprotonated twice in the mononuclear, homoleptic complex anions. The preference of beryllium for the binding of cis-furanoid diols is shown. In 2, a stereochemically active lone pair at the central atom is the reason for the construction of low dimensional aggregates from three plumbate and three sodium ions.

Notizen: Polyol Metal Complexes. 27. Bis-Diolato Antimonates(III) with Guanosine as the DiolThe complex anions of K3[SbIII(Guo1,2′,3′H-3)2] · 10 H2O (1) and [Co(NH3)6][SbIII(Guo1,2′,3′H-3)2] · 9 H2O (2) are four-coordinate homoleptic bis(diolato)antimonate(III) species. The guanosine trianions act as carbohydrate ligands through their cis-furanoidic ribosyl moiety, thus forming no nucleobase-metal bonds.

Beschreibung: Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) is an important cofactor of calcium‐ and lanthanide‐dependent alcohol dehydrogenases, and has been known for over 30 years. Crystal structures of Ca–MDH enzymes (MDH is methanol dehydrogenase) have been known for some time; however, crystal structures of PQQ with biorelevant metal ions have been lacking in the literature for decades. We report here the first crystal structure analysis of a Ca–PQQ complex outside the protein environment, namely, poly[[undecaaquabis(μ‐4,5‐dioxo‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrrolo[2,3‐f]quinoline‐2,7,9‐tricarboxylato)tricalcium(II)] dihydrate], {[Ca3(C14H3N2O8)2(H2O)11]·2H2O}n. The complex crystallized as Ca3PQQ2·13H2O with Ca2+ in three different positions and PQQ3−, including an extensive hydrogen‐bond network. Similarities and differences to the recently reported structure with biorelevant europium (Eu2PQQ2) are discussed.
