Notes: Abstract Differential-scanning-calorimetry, freeze-fracture electron microscopy, and31P-NMR spectroscopy were used to study the lyotropic and thermotropic properties of the system dihexadecylphosphatidylcholine/dihexadecylphosphatidic acid/water/ NaOH in dispersion with excess water at pH=14. The phase diagram showed that both phospholipids are demixed nearly completely in the gel phase. The coexistence of theP β′ and theB β-phase in the mixtures was pointed out in the freeze-fracture electron micrographs by the “ripple structure” (P β′-phase) and by the lamellar structure (B β-phase).

Description / Table of Contents: On the Reaction Mechanism of Rearrangement between SiCl4 and Sil4 in presence of PyridineThe rearrangement between SiCl4 and Sil4 in presence of pyridine at 343 K in benzene represents a heterogeneous halogen exchange reaction between dissolved silicon tetrahalide molecules and solid silicon tetrahalide pyridine complexes. Coordination of pyridine to silicon tetrahalide effects a weaker bonded covalent halogen which, therefore, becomes interchangeable whereas ionic bonded halogen does not take part in the exchange. If the solid exchange product formes a compact layer on educt phase the diffusion control of reaction increases. However, if coordination of pyridine changes from educt to product the formation of such compact product layers is hindered.
