    Notes: The helical twisting power (HTP) of a chiral guest in a chiral or achiral mesophase as host system is a chirality observation and, therefore, should be a suitable quantity for determination of the absolute configuration. Rules correlating the sign of the HTP and the absolute configuration of the guest are not known or, as sometimes proposed, do not exist at all. The sign and size of the HTP of compounds with one or more chiral centers are determined by the effects of an intramolecular and an intermolecular chirality transfer. The intramolecular chirality transfer is a well known phenomena in the development of sector or helicity rules for circular dichroism spectroscopy. Due to the strong omisotrophy of the intermolecular chirality transfer in a liquid crystal phase the development of rules for the determination of the absolute configuration from the sign of the HTP is called in question. By analysis of the HTP and the circular dichroism (CD) of mono- and bis-aminoanthraquinones we now show that the development of rules in comparison to CD measurements does seem to be possible if some specialities of the anisotropic mesophases are taken into account. Für die Analyse der kleinen aus dem Mohr abgepumpten Gasmengen wurde ein von RYDER angegebener Apparat zweckentsprechend abgeändert (Genauigkeit ± 2% der Gesamtmenge bei 0,5 cm3 Gas). Die bei 200° im Vakuum entgasten Mohre sorbierten (bei 0°) 26-44 Vol. H2 auf 1 Vol. Platin. Im übrigen verhielten sich die Proben fast gleich.

Für die Reduktion von 1 Mol H2PtCl6, sind, falls hinreichend Alkali zugegen ist, in der Kälte 2 Mol Formaldehyd erforderlich (Oxydation zu Formiat), in heißen Lösungen genügt 1 Mol Formaldehyd (Oxydation zu Carbonat). Steigende Mengen von Formaldehyd und Alkali beschleunigen den Reduktionsvorgang. Für stöchiometrische Messungen eignet sich der Formaldehyd nicht, weil Nebenreaktionen stören (CANNIZZARO'sche Reaktion).

    Notes: Freie 4-Amino-4.5-didesoxy-L-xylose und 4-Amino-4-desoxy-L-xylose wurden durch alkalische Spaltung aus ihren Derivaten 7 und 6 dargestellt und in ihren Reaktionen untersucht. Beide Verbindungen weisen in Lösung ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Pyrrolidin-Formen 11, 12, Δ1-Pyrrolin-Formen 13, 14 und den Dimeren 9, 10 auf, in dem die Dimeren 9, 10 weit überwiegen. Die Struktur der erhaltenen Dimeren 9, 10 folgt aus den NMR-Spektren von 9 und seiner Derivate und aus der Spaltung des N-Acetats 20 in 12 und 15. Die Dimeren werden durch Hydrierung, mit Schwefeldioxid und mit Blausäure glatt in monomere Derivate zerlegt. Sie sind gegenüber Salzsäurebehandlung überraschend stabil und bilden keine Pyrrolderivate.

    Notes: Preparation and Characterization of Inner Complexes of AnthrylenemagnesiumAnthracene derivatives containing ether or amino groups in 9- or 9,10-position (1 - 10) react with magnesium to form new magnesium anthracene inner complexes (11 - 20). These complexes as well as their organic starting materials have been extensively characterized by spectroscopy and chemical means. It was found that solvent ligands which are present in all magnesium anthracene complexes known to date can be partially or totally replaced by inner complexation. For some of the new magnesium anthracene inner complexes the complex formation rates have been determined.
