    Description: IUE observations indicate that the spectrum of 3C 273 is similar to that of other large-redshift quasars. There is a large excess of flux in the range 2400 A to 5300 A, which encompasses the Balmer jump region but which does not appear to be explainable by Balmer emission. The intensity ratio of Lyman-alpha to H-beta is 5.5, in agreement with other measures and a factor 6 smaller than the recombination value. The only absorption lines in the spectrum are due to our Galaxy. There is marginal evidence for a depression of the continuum shortward of the Lyman-alpha emission line, but the errors are too large to warrant any conclusion that 3C 273 has a rich absorption-line spectrum such as that seen in large-redshift quasars. The absence of emission and absorption lines of Fe II leads to the conclusion that resonance fluorescence probably produces the visual Fe II emission lines.

    Description: Optical studies are reported for a representative sample of 10 unidentified high galactic latitude X-ray sources that are north of declination minus 25 deg and that have 3U error boxes less than or of the order of 0.5 square degrees. The source 3U 1410-03 is identified with a peculiar emission-line spiral galaxy, NGC 5506, and a distance group 4 rich cluster of galaxies, Abell 2142, is suggested as a possible identification for 3U 1555+27. It is shown that very few of the unidentified high galactic latitude sources are quasi-stellar sources brighter than 17.5 mag, although one possible X-ray quasar, NAB 0137-01, is reported.

    Description / Table of Contents: The reaction S + 2 HJ → H2S + J2 of S8 solutions in CCl4 is very slow, but is accelerated very much in the case of S6 or Sx* (formed by splitting of S8 rings under the influence of light). A simultaneous determination of content and oxidation state of sulfur in mixtures of sulfur compounds with elemental sulfur by the “HJ method” therefore is only possible if the elemental sulfur is present in the S8 form and if the violet and ultraviolet part of the spectrum is excluded during the experiment.
    Notes: In CCl4 gelöster S8-Schwefel reagiert mit HJ nur sehr langsam nach S + 2 HJ → H2S + J2. Diese Reaktion verläuft dagegen mit S6 bzw. mit den durch Lichteinfluß erzeugten Spaltprodukt des S8-Ringes, Sx*, rasch, weshalb die „Jodwasserstoffmethode“ zur Ermittlung des Gehaltes und der Oxydationsstufe von Schwefel in Gemischen des Elementes mit seinen Verbindungen nur dann anwendbar ist, wenn unter Ausschluß des violetten und ultravioletten Anteils des Spektrums gearbeitet wird und der elementare Schwefel in seiner energieärmsten Form, also als S8-Molekel, vorliegt.

    Description / Table of Contents: The product prepared following the method of GOEHRING and FELDMANN from H2S2O3 and S2Cl2 is not a „spectrum“ of different salts as stated by WEITZ and BECKER, but really K2S6O6, which is also prepared from H2S2O3 and HNO2. Tetrasulfane-disulfonate does not only exist in the neutral form K2S6O6, but also in a „acid“ form with a part of the potassium - nonstoichiometrically - replaced by H+. The two forms have different shape and X-ray spectra.
    Notes: Bei dem nach GOEHRING und FELDMANN aus H2S2O3 und S2Cl2 dargestellten Produkt handelt es sich nicht, wie von WEITZ und BECKER angegeben, um ein „Spektrum“ verschiedener Salze, sondern um einheitliches K2S6O6, wie es auch aus H2S2O3 und HNO2 erhalten wird. Tetrasulfan-disulfonat existiert neben der neutralen Form K2S6O6 noch in einer „saueren“ Form, bei der ein Teil des Kaliums - nichtstöchiometrisch - durch H+ ersetzt ist. Die beiden Formen unterscheiden sich in Aussehen und Röntgenspektrum voneinander.

    Description / Table of Contents: Addition Compounds between Antimony(III)-Halides and 1,4-DithiacycloheptaneSbCl3, SbBr3, and SbI3 do form the addition compounds SbCl3 · 1,4-Dithiacycloheptane, SbBr3 · 1,4-Dithiaheptane and 2 SbI3 · 1,4-Dithiacycloheptane from benzene solutions. The new compounds are only stable in the solid form. FIR spectra of the SbCl3 and SbBr3 complexes are recorded as well as the X-ray structure of the SbCl3 compound.
    Notes: Aus benzolischen Lösungen von SbCl3, SbBr3 und SbI3 bilden sich mit 1,4-Dithiacycloheptan die nur in fester Form existenzfähigen Verbindungen SbCl3 · 1,4-Dithiacycloheptan, SbBr3 · 1,4-Dithiacycloheptan und 2 SbI3 · 1,4-Dithiacycloheptan. Die FIR-Spektren der SbCl3- und SbBr3-Addukte sowie die Röntgenstrukturanalyse der SbCl3-Verbindung werden mitgeteilt.

    Description / Table of Contents: The reaction of hydrogen sulfide with sulfuryl chloride in the ratio 2:1 leads in benzene solution to hydrogen chloride, water, sulfur, and disulfur monoxide, S2O, which is surprisingly stable under the prevailing conditions. The reaction of sulfuryl chloride with liquid hydrogen sulfide leads to the formation of sulfanes and chlorosulfanes, respectively, besides other products, depending on the molar ratio H2S:SO2Cl2.
    Notes: Schwefelwasserstoff reagiert mit Sulfurylchlorid beim molaren Einsatz 2:1 in benzolischer Lösung unter Bildung von Chlorwasserstoff, Wasser, Schwefel und Dischwefelmonoxid S2O, das unter den herrschenden Reaktionsbedingungen überraschend stabil ist. Mit flüssigem Schwefelwasserstoff bildet SO2Cl2 im Unterschuß u. a. Sulfane, im Überschuß Chlorsulfane.

    Description / Table of Contents: Carbonyl Metal Compounds with Polydentate Cyclic Ligands. I. Pentacarbonyl Complexes of s-Trithiane and Related CompoundsThe complexes (RCHS)nM(CO)5 (R = H, CH3, n = 3; R = H, n = 4; M = Cr, Mo, W) were prepared from the tetrahydrofuran pentacarbonyl metal compounds and the respective ligands. The Cotton-Kraihanzel force constants of these complexes indicate the sulfur ligands to be slightly more basic than triphenylphosphine. The trimethyltrithiane complexes (R = CH3, n = 3) exhibit rapid intramolecular exchange of the M(CO)5-group along the three coordination centers of the ligand.
    Notes: Die Komplexe (RCHS)nM(CO)5 (R = H, CH3, n = 3; R = H, n = 4; M = Cr, Mo, W) wurden aus den Tetrahydrofuran-pentacarbonylmetallverbindungen und dem jeweiligen Liganden dargestellt. Die Cotton-Kraihanzel-Kraftkonstanten dieser Komplexe weisen die Schwefelliganden als geringfügig schwächere Akzeptoren, verglichen mit Triphenyl-phosphin, aus. Die Komplexe des Trimethyltrithians (R = CH3, n = 3) zeigen einen raschen intramolekularen Austausch der M(CO)5-Gruppe über die drei Koordinationsstellen des Liganden.
