Notes: Data on liquid entrainment are reported for rectangular-cap bubble trays on 24-in. tray spacing for an air-water system. Several tray variations were studied, and entrainment is given for trays containing eight, twelve, and sixteen caps a tray. Some hydraulic characteristics (pressure drop, liquid backup, minimum vapor velocity, and downflow froth height) are also reported. It was found in this study that decreasing liquid path lenght increased the entrainment from a bubble-cap tray and increasing tray bubbling area decreased entrainment. It was also found that decreasing slot area generally had no effect on liquid entrainment over the range investigated.

Notes: The paper considers the effect on fluid flow in a tube when rotationally symmetric particles follow the flow on the tube axis. It is found that a region of disturbed flow, similar to inlet flow, adheres to the particle. A model describing this disturbed flow is suggested, and an expression for the change in the apparent viscosity of the flow is developed. It is found that the accompanying disturbance may have an appreciable effect on the flow. The model should be applicable when the tube Reynolds number is larger than 10.

Description / Table of Contents: The possibility of using polymers of diethylene glycol bisallyl carbonate as optical components is considered. The problems of material production and molding are presented. Characterization of polymer and such problems, as the control of the polymerization process or the resistance of polymer to mechanical surface damage and climatic influences are discussed. It is shown that diethylene glycol bisallylcarbonate is a valuable addition to the series of those plastics used so far in optics. It is shown that an improvement and further development in resistance to mechanical surface damage is possible; at the same time a contribution is made to the formulation and standardization of the term “wiping strength.”
