Description / Table of Contents:
A red nitrogen-iodine compound recently observed2) has now been obtained in the pure state and has been analysed. The nitrogen to iodine ratio of nine samples showed the medium value of two. The substance is only stable at low temperatures. Loosing ammonia in a high vacuum below -90°C it gives a black compound with a nitrogen to iodine ratio of one. A comparison with ammonia addition compounds of nitrogen triiodide shows that the new substances are no such addition compounds. Various preparation methods, the reaction with diethylamaleinate in liquid ammonia and IR spectra taken at low temperatures, respectively, show that the red substance is the ammonia addition compound of monoiodoamine. Loosing ammonia this compound gives the black monoiodoamine; the latter is converted to the black diiodoamine at about -70°C.
Notes:
