    Notes: 1. The prostomial glands, as described by Bourne, are deep-lying and unicellular, are distinctly different from the salivary glands, and their contents do not stain with boraxcarmine. They are ectodermal in origin.2. The material for the cocoon is secreted by the clitellar glands, while the prostomial glands secrete the yellowish plugs at the two poles which close the two ends of the cocoon.3. A fortnight after the cocoons are formed, the plugs become detached, leaving two outlets one at each pole, for the young leeches to wriggle out of the cocoon.4. The detachable plugs are possible only if not made of the same material as the cocoon.

    Notes: The arterial system of Uromastix hardwickii retains many primitive features and shows great resemblance and relationship to that of Sphenodon. The heart is typically reptilian. Two systemics and a pulmonary arch arise from the ventricle. The conus arteriosus is absent. The carotids arise together from the right systemic by means of a small common carotis primaria. A very well-developed ductus caroticus connects each carotid with the systemic arch of its side. The ductus arteriosus (ductus Botalli) is absent.The dorsal aorta is formed by the union of both the systemic arches. The left systemic joins entire while the right one, which is termed systemicocarotid trunk, gives off the carotids, the vertebral, a single subclavian, and two pairs of parietal arteries, before the union. Anterior epigastric arteries are altogether absent. The dorsal aorta gives off fifteen pairs of parietal arteries which are segmentally arranged. All the main branches supplying the alimentary canal and other viscerala organs arise independently of one another, there being no such combination as is found in Varanus.

    Notes: Large number of annuli in Hirudinea are not true segments, and in the absence of spacious bodycavity and septa in adult no decision was taken regarding limit of a somite, until Gratiolet 1862 recognised a segment by colour marking, repetition of nephridial openings, and especially by the presence of segmental receptors, distinguishing first annulus of a segment. Whitman 1884 gave precision to these determinations and analyzed morphology of leeches to logical completeness. He recognised that though Hirudinaria and Hirudo have 102 body annuli and posterior sucker, true segments are only 26 plus 7.Castle ('00) and Moore ('00) proposed a new scheme of segmentation, with segmental receptor bearing annulus, as central annulus of a complete somite, with nerve ganglion, like that of other annelids, in center of a segment. They orientated everything roundabout the ganglion without noticing distorted fate of organ system.In this paper both the views are compared. Morphological and embryological studies reveal that the annulus bearing the segmental receptors in uniformly first annulus of all segments, including incomplete segments at the two extremities, with nerve ganglion in first annulus of the segment.Clitellum occupies three natural segments, IX, X, XI; crop caeca, nephridia, testis sacs, haemocoelomic channels and “rhomboidal figures” formed by ventrolaterals, all make a complete unit, well integrated in such segment. Conclusive evidence comes from the presence of septa at the level of each nerve ganglion in embryos of Hirudinaria. These observations corroborate Gratiolet and Whitman's view.
