    Description / Table of Contents: A Contribution to the Structure of Thionyl Chloride and Selenium OxychlorideThe Raman spectra of the gaseous, liquid and solid oxychlorides SOCl2 and SeOCl2 as well as of a CCl4 solution have been studied. The spectra indicate associated molecules in the liquid state and relatively strong intermolecular interactions in the solid. Monomeric molecules have been found in the vapour and in dilute solutions. Raman spectra of the addition compounds SeOCl2 · SbCl5 and 2 SeOCl2 · SnCl4 are in agreement with the known crystal structures.
    Notes: Die Oxidchloride SOCl2 und SeOCl2 wurden in allen Aggregatzuständen und in CCl4-Lösungen ramanspektroskopisch untersucht. Aus den Spektren geht hervor, daß im flüssigen Zustand assoziierte Molekeln vorhanden sind und im Feststoff starke intermolekulare Wechselwirkungen auftreten. Monomere Molekeln werden in der Gasphase und in verdünnten Lösungen gefunden. Ramanspektren der Addukte SeOCl2 · SbCl5 und 2 SeOCl2 · SnCl4 sind mit den bekannten Kristallstrukturen im Einklang.

    Description / Table of Contents: Raman Spectra of the System SnBr2—CsBr in the Solid and Molten StateRaman spectra of crystalline and molten SnBr2 as well as of molten SnBr2—CsBr mixtures were measured. In molten SnBr2 polymeric chains with similar structural elements as in solid SnBr2 will be formed. Temperature rising causes a heterolytic disruption into smaller but still polymeric units of varying chain length. Equilibrium fragmentation reactions occur by bromide ion addition. In bromide rich SnBr2—CsBr melts (Br-/Sn2+ ratio 3-6) Sn2Br5-, SnBr3- and Br- ions exist with Sn2Br5- species predominating.
    Notes: Sowohl polykristallines und geschmolzenes SnBr2 als auch SnBr2—CsBr-Schmelzen wurden ramanspektroskopisch untersucht. Beim Übergang vom festen in den flüssigen Zustand entstehen beim SnBr2 polymere Ketten mit den Strukturelementen des festen SnBr2. Temperaturerhöhung bewirkt eine heterolytische Spaltung in kleinere, aber immer noch polynukleare Kettenbruchstücke. Bei Br--Zugabe erfolgen Gleichgewichtsabbaureaktionen. In Br--reichen SnBr2—CsBr-Schmelzen (Br-/Sn2+-Verhältnis 3-6) liegen hauptsächlich Sn2Br5--Spezies neben SnBr3-- und Br--Ionen vor.

    Notes: AuPS4 has been prepared and characterized by vibrational spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis and chemical analysis. The frequencies are tentatively assigned. A polymer chain structure is proposed. Normal coordinate analyses have been carried out for different fragments of the AuPS4 chain. PED calculations show strong v(Au—S) and δ(SPS) couplings and remarkably high Au—S frequencies.

    Notes: Raman spectra of crystalline, molten and gaseous ZrCl4 have been measured. The Raman frequencies of the solid have been assigned on the basis of the recently determined crystal structure. In molten ZrCl4 polymeric units with similar structural elements as in the solid and also ZrCl4 molecules will be formed. ZrCl4 molecules are present in the gaseous state.
