Article The viscosity of polymerised silicate melts is known to decrease up to a pressure of 3–5 GPa. Here, the authors demonstrate that this abnormal behaviour corresponds to the tetrahedral packing limit, below which the structure is compressed via tightening of the inter-tetrahedral bond angle.
