Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Si è misurato il coefficiente di assorbimento acustico in una soluzione all' 1% di lisozima, a frequenze comprese tre 5 e 50 MHz, in funzione del tempo.
Notes: Summary The acoustic-absorption coefficient is measured in a 1% w/w lysozyme solution, at frequencies ranging from 5 to 50 MHz, as a function of time. It is shown that a relaxation process due to diffusional motion of clusters exists. Such a process is gradually quenched, as the interacting clusters become fixed in a thixotropic solidlike structure. The obtained results are discussed in the frame of a general model early proposed on the basis of viscosity and light scattering experiments.

Notes: Summary We report on the effects of monohydric alcohols on the thixotropic properties of a 1% (by weight) BSA solution. The presence of alcohols in the solution medium, even in very small amounts, weakens the structure responsible for the thixotropic properties: this effect increases with increasing alcohol concentration and alkyl group size. We also present indirect evidence relating the observed effects to the alteration, in the presence of alcohols, of protein-solvent hydrophobic interactions.

Notes: Summary EXAFS and Raman spectra, obtained from mixed MBr2+NBr2 (M, N=Zn2+, Cu2+, Sr2+) in H2O are discussed. The measurements, carried out at Adone (PULS facility), for EXAFS and in our light scattering laboratory, for Raman, allow us to study both the static and the dynamic properties of these systems. In particular, strong evidence of metal-halogen ionic pairs and hydration shell formation is reported. Our results, in terms of existing structural models, are also discussed.
