Description: To obtain the intuitive data of magic field changes with nonwoven metal shielding material, the Al / PET / Rayon needle punched webs was processed with varied parameters, which were position of Al film, mass proportion of Al, needle punched density, and needle punched depth. Magnetic flux density values of Al / PET / Rayon needle punched webs were measured to calculate their magnetic flux density attenuation (MFDA) values under the exposure to mobile phone field. It was found that position of Al film, Al proportion, and needle punched density have a great effect on magnetic flux density attenuation. When Al proportion in needle punched web increases from 10% to 18%, MFDA values increase accordingly, and tend to converge around Al mass ratio 18%. Besides, the promotion range of MFDA values is particularly obvious in the case of needle punched density 50 g m −2 . When needle punched density increases from 50 g m −2 to 150 g m −2 , MFDA values decrease o...

Description: In this paper, the imidization mechanism of polyamic acid to prepare polyimide has been studied by the density functional theory (DFT) method. Our results have shown that the imidization would proceed via two different reaction paths. The activation barrier via hydrogen transfer to closer carboxylate oxygen in the COOH is 220.35 kJ/mol while the activation barrier via hydrogen transfer to hydroxyl oxygen in the COOH is 220.70 kJ/mol. Both reaction paths would run in the actual thermal imidization process with closer high activation barriers. The high energy barrier interpreted the fact that additional energy or catalyst is usually needed during imidization. Moreover, the intrinsic imidization mechanism indicated is critical to further improve the imidization process.

Description: Gutta-percha is the isomer of caoutchouc and can be used to enhance the performance of asphalt. In this paper, the produce proceedings of gutta-percha sulfide and gutta-percha sulfide modified asphalt are introduced. The performance indices of gutta-percha sulfide modified asphalt samples with different proportions are examined based on laboratory tests and the optimum ratio of gutta-percha and sulfur is decided. The micromechanism, temperature sensitivity, high and low temperature properties and viscoelasticity of the polymer modified asphalt are analyzed to discuss the modified mechanism and to decide the optimal polymer content. Low temperature bending tests are carried out to verify the low temperature performance of gutta-percha sulfide modified asphalt mixture. Research results showed that gutta-percha sulfide modified asphalt has good low temperature performance and a promising application prospect in the cold regions.

Notes: Abstract  A novel method is proposed by coupling the element free Galerkin (EFG) and the hybrid boundary element (HBE) methods to achieve solution efficiency and accuracy for stress analysis in solids. A modified variational formulation is derived for the present coupled EFG/HBE method so that the continuity and compatibility can be preserved on the interface between the domains of EFG and HBE. The coupled EFG/HBE method has been coded in FORTRAN. The validity and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated through a number of example problems. It is found that the present method can take advantages of both EFG and HBE methods. The present method is very easy to implement, and very flexible for obtaining displacements and stresses of desired accuracy in solids, as the efforts for meshing the problem domain have been significantly reduced due to the use of boundary element method (BEM).

Notes: Abstract The meshless local Petrov–Galerkin (MLPG) method is an effective truly meshless method for solving partial differential equations using moving least squares (MLS) interpolants. It is, however, computationally expensive for some problems. A coupled MLPG/finite element (FE) method and a coupled MLPG/boundary element (BE) method are proposed in this paper to improve the solution efficiency. A procedure is developed for the coupled MLPG/FE method and the coupled MLPG/BE method so that the continuity and compatibility are preserved on the interface of the two domains where the MLPG and FE or BE methods are applied. The validity and efficiency of the MLPG/FE and MLPG/BE methods are demonstrated through a number of examples.

Notes: Abstract Carbon nitride films were grown on Si and Pt substrates by microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) method. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations show that the films deposited on Si substrates consisted of densely populated hexagonal crystalline rods. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyses show that N/C ratios of the rods were in the range of 1.0 to 2.0 depending on deposition condition. X-ray diffraction experiments show that the films consisted of crystalline phase β-C3N4. Comparison with films grown on Pt substrate show that the main X-ray diffraction peaks of β-C3N4 are existed in films deposited on both substrate. XPS study showed that carbon and nitride atoms are covalent bounded to each other. IR results show that the film is predominantly C-N bonded. Raman measurement showed characteristic peaks of β-C3N4 in the low wave number region. Temperature dependent growth experiments show that the amount of Si3N4 in the films grown on Si substrates can be significantly reduced to negligible amount by controlling the substrate temperature.

Notes: Abstract The research work presented here is based on the concept of the integration of optimization techniques and numerical analysis with the finite element method (FEM) and computer-aided design (CAD). A microcomputer aided optimum design system, MCADS, has been developed for general structures. Certain techniques to be discussed in the paper, e.g. the semi-analytical method for design sensitivity analysis, optimization analysis modelling for shape design, application oriented user interfaces and the coupling of automated optimization and user intervention have rendered MCADS pratical and versatile in applications for engineering structures. The above techniques and an application are presented in this paper.

Notes: Abstract It is presented in this paper that the structural modelling of shape optimization is composed of, in general cases, four distinct processes on geometry, design, analysis and perturbation models. The relationships between these models are discussed. An integrated modelling approach based on geometric shape parameterization and automatic mesh generation is proposed. In cooperation with this modelling approach, the semi-analytic sensitivity analysis has been effectively employed. These techniques join shape optimization with FEM and CAD packages and apply it versatilely to optimum designs of general structures. The implementation and applications of the integrated modelling approach and semi-analytic sensitivity analysis to shape optimization of structures with coupling of stress and temperature fields are illustrated.

Description: This paper introduces a cryogenic tensile testing apparatus for micro-samples cooled by a miniature pulse tube cryocooler. At present, tensile tests are widely applied to measure the mechanical properties of materials; most of the cryogenic tensile testing apparatus are designed for samples with standard sizes, while for non-standard size samples, especially for microsamples, the tensile testing cannot be conducted. The general approach to cool down the specimens for tensile testing is by using of liquid nitrogen or liquid helium, which is not convenient: it is difficult to keep the temperature of the specimens at an arbitrary set point precisely, besides, in some occasions, liquid nitrogen, especially liquid helium, is not easily available. To overcome these limitations, a cryogenic tensile testing apparatus cooled by a high frequency pulse tube cryocooler has been designed, built and tested. The operating temperatures of the developed tensile testing apparatus cover from 20 K t...
