    Notes: Summary Deterioration of the superconducting properties of HTC materials, induced by different substitutions, offers a key towards the understanding of the basic HTC interactions. Similar effects are obtained either by doping of layers of the perovskite not directly involved in the superconducting mechanism, or by direct substitution of the copper itself. However, this apparent similarity is misleading. In YBCO, for instance, in the first case the oxygen content or the substitution of Y with Pr4+ appear to control essentially the carrier density,n, while in the second case the direct substitution of Cu in the bilayers by Zn or Ni affects more extensively the overall electronic structure of the material. A sensitive experimental tool, such as μSR, detects correspondingly different behaviours.

    Notes: Abstract Different reactive diluents suitable for inducing network flexibilization of a typical ultraviolet curable epoxy resin based on bisphenol-A-diglycidyl-ether-diacrylate (BGEDA) were investigated. Firstly the influence of some monoacrylic reactive diluents, e.g. 2-ethylhexyl-acrylate (EHA) and 4-hydrocybutil-acrylate (HBA) and of a bis-acrylic diluent, polyethylene-glycol-diacrylate (PEGDA) was examined. Subsequently a systematic study was carried out on the properties of coatings resulting from mixtures of BGEDA and a poly(diethylene-glycol-carbonate) diacrylate (PGCDA) as reactive diluent. The main mechanical, dynamic-mechanical and technological properties of both free films and films coated on steel sheets, were evaluated. Interesting network flexibilization properties were observed when PGCDA was used as reactive diluent of BGEDA. The formulations investigated allowed us to obtain a broad range of flexibility for the resulting ultraviolet cured resins and to correlate the coating flexibility with other fundamental properties such asT g, elastic modulus, abrasion resistance, hardness, adhesion, impact resistance, accelerated ageing and resistance to chemicals.

    Notes: Abstract We present a detailed study of the ZF‐μSR precession signals in AF YBa2Cu3O6+x for a series of 0.06\,\leq\,x\,\leq\,0.39 ceramic samples. Careful analysis of the temperature and oxygen content dependence shows a complex behaviour of the magnetic field at the muon site. The two main novelties are that a) the muon does not diffuse freely above 250 K, as previously stated, and that b) mobile holes phase separate, inducing a finite size reduction of the AF order parameter.

    Notes: Abstract The Spallation Neutron Source, SNS, under construction in the United Kingdom offers the possibility of an intense pulsed pion or muon source and aμSR facility for condensed matter spectroscopy has been proposed. A design and specification is presented for a pulsed surface muon beam. Features include negligible electron contamination, the possibility of rotating the polarisation and — particularly important — the capability of varying the pulse width. Operation with cloud muons of both charge signs up to 70 MeV/c and with pions up to 200 MeV/c would also be possible. The pulsed nature of the source would allow the full muon intensities to be used forμSR experiments. The potential performance is such that an optimised facility would increase the world total muon stop rate for conventional time-differentialμSR by an order of magnitude. The majority ofμSR applications would benefit simply from the increased intensity, some benefit especially from the frame-length and duty cycle. Emphasis is to be placed on longitudinalμSR, on the development of RF techniques (particularly for chemical applications) and onμSR in conjunction with synchronous pulsed excitation of the sample. A scheme for the excitation of a certain bandwidth within a high frequencyμSR spectrum, to display individual spectral lines for instance, is proposed.
