Notes: Abstract The crystal structure of N-(4-nitrophenyl)-N-phenylsulfonamide (C18H14N2O4S), a derivative of sulfonamide, has been determined by X-ray diffraction method using CuKα radiation. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space groupP21/n, witha=24.463(1),b=5.745(2),c=11.428(3)Å andβ=94.39(2)°. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least squares to a finalR value of 0.045 with 3032 unique reflections. The dihedral angle between the substituents phenyl ring B and the phenyl A is 94.7(3)°. The S atom is in the usual distorted tetrahedral configuration.

Notes: Summary We have studied the Einstein relation of the diffusivity-mobility ratio of the carriers in Bi in accordance with the McClure and Choi, the hybrid, the Cohen, the Lax and the ellipsoidal parabolic energy band models under magnetic quantization, cross-field configuration, quantum wells, electric-field-aided quantum wells, quantum wells under cross-field configuration, quantumwell wires, electrifield-aided quantum well wires and quantum well wires under cross-field configurations, respectively. The Einstein relation varies with various physical variables in different manners which are totally band structure dependent. We have also suggested an experimental method of determining the diffusivity-to-mobility ratio in degenerate materials having arbitrary dispersion laws.

Notes: Summary We study the subband energies in quantum wells and quantum wires in the presence of a parallel magnetic field in non-parabolic semiconductors, on the basis of a generalized dispersion relation considering all types of anisotropies of the energy-band parameters within the framework ofk·p formalism, by formulating the respective electron energy spectra. It is found, by takingn-Cd3As2 as an example, that the subband energies are greater for quantum wires and smaller for quantum wells, respectively. The magnetic field diminishes the above values and the corresponding well-known results for quantum-confined parabolic semiconductors have also been obtained from our generalized expressions under certain limiting conditions.

Notes: Summary Triple differential cross-section (TDCS) of hydrogen atom in its metastable (2S) state is studied theoretically by electron and positron impact for coplanar and asymmetric geometry. The final-state wave function in the present model satisfies the asymptotic boundary condition for asymmetric geometry (i.e. fork 1≫k 2). In the absence of experiment, present results are compared with other existing theoretical results. Apart from the double-peaked structure of the TDCS as in ground-state ionization, some interesting secondary structures are found, in conformity with other theories for ionization from 2S state.

Notes: Abstract The optical gap of the amorphous In x Se1−x thin film has been observed to decrease with increasing content of indium in the film (x). An attempt is made to interpret the compositional dependence of the optical gap in amorphous In x Se1−x thin film in an alloy-like approach. It has been found that introduction of higher concentrations of indium imparts greater stability to the structure of the indium selenium alloy. From the study of the radial distribution function (RDF) by X-rays it is observed that there is a correlation between the coordination number and the optical gap of indium selenide thin films.

Notes: Abstract A high molecular weight protein has been isolated as a major polypeptide comprising 85% of the total extractable proteins in the fruit pericarp of the plantImpatiens balsamina. The protein has been purified to homogeneity following fractionation of the crude cell supernatant with ammonium sulphate, chromatography on Sepharose 4B and Sephacryl-S-300. This protein appeared to be a homo-tetramer consisting of subunits, Mr 75 K. Amino acid analysis showed the presence of more acidic amino acids, with an isoelectric point 5.8. The interaction of this protein with filamentous actin, both from rabbit muscle and Mung bean embryo was monitored by transmission electron microscopy, light scattering analysis, viscometry and sedimentation assay. This protein inhibited appreciably the polymerization of G-actin to F-actin.

Notes: Abstract This paper examines the extent to which individual contributions to public television are explained by the size of the audience which receives the individual station's television signal. It also incorporates the effects of income on contributions to public television in order to assess the combined effects of income and group size on contributions to public goods. The existing literature on contributions to public goods differs from this paper in several respects. First, this study uses field data to test the effects of group size on a public good. The majority of the existing literature on public goods contributions is based on experimental data. Most of this literature addresses the issue of free riding behavior, not the effects on contributions of different sized groups. Finally, the theory of group size developed in prior work does not address the issue of how contributions differ for groups which are very different in size.

Notes: Abstract Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was employed to determine Y, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho and Er in high purity terbium oxide. Terbium oxide was dissolved in 0.5 mol/l HNO3 and nebulized into the plasma generated by a 56 MHz RF generator at 1.5 kW output power. Using a Jobin-Yvon 1-m Czenry-Turner high resolution, high dispersion scanning monochromator, lines mutually interference-free as well as free of interference from the matrix Tb were chosen for the seven analytes. A set of standards containing the analytes in the concentration range 0.01–1.0 gmg/ml with 1 mg/ml Tb was used for calibration. It was necessary to apply background correction to the gross analyte line intensities in order to obtain linear calibration plots for the analytes.

Notes: Summary Pyromellitic dianhydride and dipyridyl/dipyridylamine have been polycondensed in presence of anhydrous ZnCl2 under selective conditions. Fe(III), Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of the polycondensates have been prepared. Tentative structures for PMDA-DP (DPA)-M complexes have been proposed on the basis of elemental IR and electronic spectral analyses.
