    Description: A standardized residency training program (SRT) was launched in Shanghai in 2010, for both Western Medicine (WM) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This study aimed to assess whether the program impacted trainees’ willingness to become a doctor and whether the program had different effects among WM and TCM trainees. A structured questionnaire was distributed to 2114 trainees to assess their perceptions and satisfaction with the program and their willingness to become a doctor after the exposure to the program. The trainees’ characteristics were compared between WM and TCM specialties using X2 tests. The potential factors associated with trainees’ perception of the program and willingness to become a doctor after the exposure to the SRT program were assessed by multiple linear and logistic regression models. Compared to WM trainees (n = 1853), TCM trainees (n = 261) would be more likely to become doctors if there were no SRT program (p = 0.003). Both individual and program-wide (different specialties) factors contributed to trainees’ perception, overall satisfaction, and willingness. Only specialty played an independent role in the associations with all three outcome variables. Inequality of characteristics between TCM and WM trainees reduced TCM trainees’ willingness to become a doctor after the exposure to the SRT program.

    Description: Liver cancer (LC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-related deaths: this study aims to present the long-term trends and age–period–cohort effects of the incidence of and mortality from LC in China during 1990–2017. Incidence and mortality data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017. We determined trends in the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and mortality rate (ASMR) using Joinpoint regression. An age–period–cohort (APC) analysis was performed to describe the long-term trends with intrinsic estimator methods. The ASMR decreased markedly before 2013 and increased thereafter, with overall average annual percent change (AAPC) values of −0.5% (95% confidence interval (CI): −0.6%, −0.3%) for men and −1.3% (−1.6%, −1.0%) for women during 1990–2017. The ASIR significantly increased by 0.2% (0.1%, 0.3%) in men and decreased by 1.1% (−1.2%, −1.0%) in women from 1990 to 2017. The risks of LC incidence and mortality increased with age in both genders. The period effect risk ratios (RRs) of incidence and mortality displayed similar monotonic increasing trends in men and remained stable in women. The cohort effect showed an overall downward trend and almost overlapping incidence and mortality in both genders, and later birth cohorts experienced lower RRs than previous birth cohorts. Older age, recent period, and birth before 1923 were associated with a higher risk of liver cancer incidence and mortality. The net age and period effects showed an increasing trend, while the cohort effects presented a decreasing trend in incidence and mortality risk. As China’s population aging worsens and with the popularization of unhealthy lifestyles, the burden caused by liver cancer will remain a huge challenge in China’s future.

    Description: Reinforced concrete is of vital importance in many civil and industrial structural applications. The effective bonding between steel and concrete is the core guarantee of the safe operation of the structures. Corrosion or other interface debonding in steel-concrete is a typical failure mode during the long service period of the structures, which can severely reduce the load-bearing capacity. The Non-destructive Evaluation technique has been applied to civil engineering structures in recent years. This paper investigates the evaluation of reinforced concrete structures that have interface defects, including the cross-sectional loss and cracks, by using the piezoceramic induced ultrasonic wave and time reversal method. Ultrasonic wave is used as actuating wave to obtain the signals with defect information. Time reversal method is applied to localize and characterize defect along the interface of the steel-concrete and to image the defect through the cross-sectional scanning. Experiments were conducted to perform Nondestructive Evaluation by using six reinforced concrete components with different levels of defects. The invisible damages were made by the cutting part of the steel and embedding a table tennis ball inside concrete structures. The results show that the time reversed method can locate and evaluate the defects along the steel reinforced concrete, and the obtained defect images at the cross-section of the concrete structure are accurate.

    Description: According to the existing mainstream automatic parking system (APS), a parking path is first planned based on the parking slot detected by the sensors. Subsequently, the path tracking module guides the vehicle to track the planned parking path. However, since the vehicle is non-linear dynamic, path tracking error inevitably occurs, leading to inclination and deviation of the parking. Accordingly, in this paper, a reinforcement learning-based end-to-end parking algorithm is proposed to achieve automatic parking. The vehicle can continuously learn and accumulate experience from numerous parking attempts and then learn the command of the optimal steering wheel angle at different parking slots. Based on this end-to-end parking, errors caused by path tracking can be avoided. Moreover, to ensure that the parking slot can be obtained continuously in the process of learning, a parking slot tracking algorithm is proposed based on the combination of vision and vehicle chassis information. Furthermore, given that the learning network output is hard to converge, and it is easy to fall into local optimum during the parking process, several reinforcement learning training methods in terms of parking conditions are developed. Lastly, by the real vehicle test, it is proved that using the proposed method can achieve a better parking attitude than using the path planning and path tracking-based method.

    Description: The multi-degree-of-freedom high-precision positioning system (MHPS) is one of the key technologies in many advanced industrial applications. In this paper, a novel hyperbolic magnetic field voice coil actuator using a rhombus magnet array (HMF-VCA) for MHPS is proposed. Benefiting from the especially designed rhombus magnet array, the proposed HMF-VCA has the advantage of excellent force uniformity, which makes it suitable for multi-degree-of-freedom high-precision positioning applications. First, the basic structure and operation principles of the HMF-VCA are presented. Second, the six-degree-of-freedom force and torque characteristic of the HMF-VCA is studied by three-dimensional finite element analysis (3-D FEA). Third, the influence of structural parameters on force density and force uniformity is investigated, which is conducive to the design and optimization of the HMF-VCA. Finally, a prototype is constructed, and the comparison between the HMF-VCA and conventional VCAs proves the advantage of the proposed topology.

    Description: To examine how cross-strata neighboring behavior in a mixed-income community can influence the consumption choices of individuals in low-income groups, and to improve the prediction accuracy of the consumption choice model of low-income groups for small sample sizes, we developed a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm based on the influence of neighboring behavior. We substituted the predicted latent variables into the SVM classifier and constructed an SVM prediction model with latent variables based on reference group theory. We established the model parameters using cross-validation and used low-income residents from a mixed-income community in Shanghai as study objects to empirically test the model’s performance. The results show that the SVM selection model with latent variables has good prediction accuracy. The proposed model’s accuracy was improved by 1.29% on the basis of the particle swarm optimization (PSO)-SVM model without latent variables, and by 19.35% on the basis of the SVM model with latent variables. The proposed model can be employed to predict the consumption choices of individuals in low-income groups. This paper offers a theoretical reference for investigating neighboring behavior in a mixed-income community and the consumption choices of individuals in low-income groups and is practically important for urban community planning systems.
